Anna Rasmussen (Samoa)
Anne Rasmussen is a Samoan climate expert from Samoa. At the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) she was the chief negotiator for the Alliance of Small Island States. Life Rasmussen was brought up on Samoa which is a country made up of six small Pacific islands. She studied geography at the University of the South Pacific and graduated. She went on to gain a post graduate qualification in climate change. In 2009 she first became involved in representing her country in climate negotiations and by COP18 in 2012 in Doha, she was co-chairing meetings. At COP24 she began leading the negotiations on climate finance, the Green Climate Fund and the Global Environment Facility for the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). The University of the South Pacific (USP) is a public research university with locations spread throughout a dozen countries in Oceania. 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference
The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP28, was the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference, held from 30 November to 13 December at Expo City Dubai, Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The COP conference has been held annually (except 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) since the Earth Summit, first UN climate agreement in 1992. Alliance Of Small Island States
Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) is an intergovernmental organization of low-lying coastal and small island countries. AOSIS was established in 1990, ahead of the Second World Climate Conference. The main purpose of the alliance is to consolidate the voices of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to address global warming. These island countries are particularly vulnerable to climate change and its related effects on the ocean, including sea level rise, coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion. The members are among the nations least responsible for climate change, having contributed less than 1% to the world's greenhouse gas emissions. These states advocate for international policy and mechanisms for addressing the inequity of climate impacts. 2012 United Nations Climate Change Conference
The 2012 United Nations Climate Change Conference was the 18th yearly session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 8th session of the Meeting of the Parties (CMP) to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol (the protocol having been developed under the UNFCCC's charter). The conference took place from Monday 26 November to Saturday 8 December 2012, at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha. The conference reached an agreement to extend the life of the Kyoto Protocol, which had been due to expire at the end of 2012, until 2020, and to reify the 2011 Durban Platform, meaning that a successor to the Protocol is set to be developed by 2015 and implemented by 2020. Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster
Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster is a Samoan environmentalist, politician and Cabinet Minister. He is a member of the FAST Party. Schuster is from the village of Satapuala. He was educated at the University of Victoria and at Brandeis University in the United States. He has previously worked for the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Samoan government's Division of Environment and Conservation, Seacology, and as an environmental consultant. Schuster is the cousin of Lefau Harry Schuster and the father of swimmer Brandon Schuster. Tina Stege
Tina Stege in 2021 Tina Stege is the Climate Envoy for the Marshall Islands (RMI). The RMI is one of the countries in the world most vulnerable to climate change, mainly as a result of rising sea levels. Among other meetings, Stege has represented her country at the 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25) held in Madrid, Spain, the 2021 Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow, Scotland and the 2022 Conference (COP27) held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. She has also been a spokesperson for the RMI on the impacts of nuclear testing.
