2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference
The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP28, was the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference, held from 30 November to 13 December at Expo City Dubai, Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The COP conference has been held annually (except 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) since the Earth Summit, first UN climate agreement in 1992. The event is intended for governments to agree on policies to Climate change mitigation, limit global temperature rises and Climate change adaptation, adapt to impacts associated with climate change. The conference was originally scheduled to end on 12 December, but had to be extended following Saudi Arabia, Saudi objections on the final agreement. Global net zero emissions describes the state where emissions of carbon dioxide due to human activities and removals of these gases are in balance over a given period. It is often called simply net zero. In some cases, "emissions" refers to emissions of all greenhouse gases, and in others it refers only to emissions of carbon dioxide (). The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) established an international environmental treaty to combat "dangerous human interference with the climate system", in part by stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.
