Anjimile
Anjimile Chithambo, better known under the mononym Anjimile (/əˈn ˈd͡ʒɪm ːə liː/ ann-JIM-uh-lee), is an American folk singer-songwriter from Boston, Massachusetts. Early life Anjimile was born in 1993 and raised in Dallas before eventually moving to Boston. In an interview with Sound of Boston, they note that the second song they wrote, "Apocolypse Now," was inspired by a "tumultuous time in high school" and about being excited to move to Boston and leaving behind the constraints of the Texan suburbs. Growing up, they started playing guitar at 11, and sang in choirs starting in the fifth grade and continuing until college. Their early musical influence came through listening to their dad's Oliver Mtukudzi albums in the car, and early Sufjan Stevens. ''Giver Taker'' is the debut studio album by American musician Anjimile. It was released on September 18, 2020, by Father/Daughter Records. Release Anjimile announced the release of their debut studio album on July 8, 2020. Singles On July 8, 2020, the first single "Maker" was released, alongside the announcement of the album. In a press release, Anjimile explained how the song relates to "coming to terms with my transgender identity, ruminating on the lack of acceptance from my parents, and kind of relating my transness to the father/son/holy ghost trinity." ''The King'' is the second studio album by American folk musician Anjimile Chithambo, better known as Anjimile. It was released on September 8, 2023, through 4AD. Chithambo wrote and co-produced all the songs, with additional production credits from Justine Bowe and Shawn Everett. It features contributions from Justine Bowe, Brad Allen Williams, Sam Gendel, and James Krivchenia. Background Chithambo wrote, arranged, recorded, and produced the record in the span of three years. The musician described it as "a very intense record" that contains a lot of "anger and hopelessness and fear". In writing songs for the album, he was able to process and release "those challenging feelings", in hopes that listeners would experience it themselves. Father/Daughter Records is an independent record label based in San Francisco, California. It is owned and operated by Jessi Frick, a former marketing and publicity executive at Fiddler Records, and her father Ken Hector, and was formed in 2010. ''Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!?'' is the fourth studio album from American musician McKinley Dixon. Released on June 2, 2023, it is a jazz rap and conscious hip hop album. McKinley Dixon (born October 28, 1995) is an American rapper and singer from Richmond, Virginia. Background Dixon was born on October 28, 1995, in Annapolis, Maryland. Lomelda is the stage name of musician Hannah Read. According to Read, Lomelda is a made-up word that means "echo of the stars". Career Read was raised in Silsbee, Texas. She began her music career playing in bands with her brother and with high school friends. Read's first full-length album, ''Forever'', was released in 2015.
