Lomelda
Lomelda is the stage name of musician Hannah Read. According to Read, Lomelda is a made-up word that means "echo of the stars". Career Read was raised in Silsbee, Texas. She began her music career playing in bands with her brother and with high school friends. Read's first full-length album, ''Forever'', was released in 2015. In 2017, she released her second full-length album, ''Thx'', with the independent record label Double Double Whammy. The album was co-produced with Read's brother Tommy. It was written over a few months while Read was sleeping in her car. In July 2017, ''Stereogum'' named Lomelda one of their "Bands To Watch". Her next album, '' M for Empathy'', was released on March 1, 2019. Despite having 11 songs, the album clocks a total of 16 minutes. Hovvdy is an American indie pop duo formed in Austin, Texas by Charlie Martin and Will Taylor. History Hovvdy released their first EP in 2014. The following year, they released a split with the band Loafer. In 2016, the band released their debut full-length album, ''Taster'', through Double Double Whammy. Hovvdy's second album, titled ''Cranberry'', was released in 2018. In 2019, the duo released a split with musician Hannah Read, known as Lomelda. Silsbee is a town in Hardin County, Texas, United States. This town is north of Beaumont. The population was 6,935 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area. Geography Silsbee is located in eastern Hardin County. U.S. Route 96, a four-lane bypass, forms the southeastern border of the city; the highway leads northeast to Jasper and south to Beaumont. Double Double Whammy is an independent record label founded by Dave Benton and Mike Caridi in October 2011 whilst studying at SUNY Purchase, a liberal arts college in New York state. History Double Double Whammy was founded by Dave Benton and Mike Caridi in October 2011. The pair started releasing tapes for their own band LVL UP, and local bands at SUNY Purchase, the college they attended in New York state. They considered the label inspired by other indie rock labels such as Merge and K. In 2014 Double Double Whammy released the breakout albums from Frankie Cosmos and fellow SUNY Purchase alumna Mitski. After college the label moved to Brooklyn.
