Anděl Awards
The Anděl Awards () is a Czech music award ceremony organized by the Czech Academy of Popular Music. History It is a successor to the Annual Czechoslovak Music Award (Czech: ''Výroční československé hudební ceny'') established in 1991 in Czechoslovakia. Between 1992 and 1995, it was known as Gramy, with award categories matching the American Grammy Awards and the prize being represented by a ceramic Phonograph, gramophone statuette. Since 1997, it bears the current name, with the prize including a statuette of an angel with open wings playing a Horn (instrument), horn, designed by sculptor Jaroslav Róna. Brothers () is a 2023 historical action drama film directed by Tomáš Mašín from a screenplay written by Marek Epstein. The film is based on the nonfiction book ''Gauntlet'' by Barbara Mašín. Insania (Czech Band)
Insania (stylized as 1N54N14 and also known as the Aristocracy of New Outlaws) is a Czech crossover/post-hardcore band from Brno. As of 2025, they have released ten studio albums, three EPs, and one live record. History Insania was founded in 1987 in Brno, in the former Czechoslovakia (present-day Czechia), by guitarist/singer Petr "Poly" Pálenský (Root) and drummers Martin "Malcev" Maleček and Martin "Vrba" Vrbík ( Zeměžluč). After several concerts, their activity was stopped by the secret state police in 1988. Jaromír Nohavica
Jaromír Nohavica or Jarek Nohavica (born 7 June 1953, in Ostrava) is a Czech recording artist, songwriter, lyricist and poet. Early life He was born in Ostrava and has played guitar since he was 13. He began studies at the Technical University of Ostrava but eventually left the school. He tried various jobs, including as a freelance lyricist. He gained fame with his first song for Marie Rottrová, ''Lásko, voníš deštěm'' (You Smell of Rain, My Love; actually a cover version of the song ''She's Gone'' by Black Sabbath). David Koller
David Koller (born 27 September 1960) is a Czech musician and record producer. Career Music Koller started his career in the early 1980s as the drummer of Jasná Páka and has also played in various other bands, including Žentour, Pusa, and Blue Effect. He founded the popular Czech group Lucie in 1985 and remained there until 2005, when he departed, due to disagreements with fellow members P.B.CH. and Robert Kodym. The group reunited in 2012. In 2008, he was temporarily a touring member of Chinaski, and he leads his own group, Kollerband. Tomáš Klus
Tomáš Klus (born 15 May 1986) is a Czech musician and songwriter from the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. Life and career Klus was born in the industrial town of Třinec, where he spent most of his childhood. His parents were folk music fans, and he accompanied them to many concerts and music festivals. Growing up he was heavily influenced by musicians Karel Plíhal, Karel Kryl and in particular Jaromír Nohavica, who is still a major influence on Klus' music. Klus moved to Prague aged 15 to pursue a sporting career, and was a member of the gold medal winning team in modern pentathlon in the 2002 European championship. Chinaski (band)
Chinaski () is a Czech pop rock group. In 2005, they won an Anděl Award, granted by the Czech Academy of Popular Music, and repeated this success in 2007. They have also repeatedly placed in the top ranks of the Český slavík awards. History The group was established in 1987 as Starý Hrady (named after the village of Staré Hrady) by Pavel Grohman and Michal Novotný (known professionally as Michal Malátný). Iva Bittová
Iva Bittová (born 22 July 1958) is a Czech avant-garde violinist, singer, and composer. She began her career as an actor in the mid-1970s, appearing in several Czech feature films, but switched to playing violin and singing in the early 1980s. She started recording in 1986 and by 1990 her unique vocal and instrumental technique gained her international recognition. Since then, she has performed regularly throughout Europe, the United States and Japan, and has released over eight solo albums. In addition to her musical career, Bittová has continued acting and still occasionally appears in feature films.
