Andrés Acuña
Andrés Acuña (born September 11, 1995) is a Costa Rican racquetball player. He is the current World Games champion in racquetball, winning gold at the 2022 World Games, in Birmingham, Alabama. Acuña is a former Pan American Champion in Men's Doubles (with Gabriel Garcia), winning the title in 2024 in Guatemala City. He was runner up at the 2021 International Racquetball Federation (IRF 2021 Racquetball World Championships - Men's Singles, 2021 World Championships in Men's Singles in Guatemala. Junior years - 2009-2014 Acuña played at the IRF World Junior Championships several times. In 2009 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, he was in the semi-finals of Boys U14 singles and doubles. Racquetball At The 2014 Central American And Caribbean Games
The racquetball competition at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games was held at the Racquet Complex in Leyes de Reforma Sports Complex in Veracruz, Mexico, from 15 to 24 November. There were individual competitions in men's and women's singles and doubles 15–21 November with men's and women's team competitions on 22–24 November. Mexican players are the incumbent Central American and Caribbean Games champions in all divisions. In 2010, Álvaro Beltrán of Mexico won men's singles, Javier Moreno and Polo Gutierrez of Mexico won men's doubles, Paola Longoria of Mexico won women's singles, and Samantha Salas and Susana Acosta of Mexico won women's doubles. Mexico also won the men's and women's team competitions. Beltrán, Moreno, Gutierrez and Gilberto Meija were the men's team with Longoria, Salas, Acosta and Jessica Parrilla on the women's team. Javier Mar (born April 11, 1995) is a Mexican racquetball player. Mar is the current two time Pan American Games champion in Men's Doubles with Rodrigo Montoya, first winning gold at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru and then again at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. He's a former International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles with Montoya, winning that title in 2021. Mar has also won doubles titles on the International Racquetball Tour. Junior years Mar played at the IRF World Junior Championships several times. He won Boys U14 Singles in 2010 in Los Angeles, defeating fellow Mexican Roman Ramos in final, 10–15, 15–9, 11–10. Rodrigo Montoya (born June 4, 1996) is a Mexican racquetball player. He is the current International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in both the Men's Team competition and Mixed Doubles (with Samantha Salas), winning those titles at the 2022 Racquetball World Championships, 2022 Championships in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. That was his 4th IRF World Championship, as he won the 2018 Racquetball World Championships – Men's singles, 2018 Men's Singles in Costa Rica and the 2021 Racquetball World Championships – Men's Doubles, 2021 Men's Doubles with Javier Mar in Guatemala City, so Montoya is the first player to win singles, doubles and mixed doubles at Worlds. Coby Iwaasa (born June 19, 1996) is a Canadian racquetball player. He is the currenInternational Racquetball Federation(IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title with Samuel Murray in 2024. Previously, Iwaasa and Murray won the 2022 Pan American Championships Men's Doubles title, and he won two silver medals at the Racquetball at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. Junior competitions Iwaasa was a prodigious player as a junior, winning several Canadian Junior National Championships (Junior Nationals), including four Boy's U18 titles, which is a record. Racquetball
Racquetball is a racquet sport and a team sport played with a hollow rubber ball on an indoor or outdoor court. Joseph Sobek invented the modern sport of racquetball in 1950, adding a stringed racquet to paddleball in order to increase velocity and control. Unlike most racquet sports, such as tennis and badminton, there is no net to hit the ball over, and, unlike squash, no tin (out of bounds area at the bottom of front wall) to hit the ball above. Also, the court's walls, floor, and ceiling are legal playing surfaces, with the exception of court-specific designated hinders being out-of-bounds. 2019 Pan American Racquetball Championships
The 2019 Pan American Racquetball Championships took place in Barranquilla, Colombia from April 12–20 at the Parque de Racquetas La Castellana, which was used for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. Bolivia won both Men's Singles and Doubles for the 1st time in tournament history, while Mexico won both Women's Singles and Doubles for the 5th time. Carlos Keller of Bolivia successfully defended the gold medal he won in 2018 by defeating the USA's Charlie Pratt in the Men's Singles final, and Keller's brother Roland won gold in Men's Doubles with Conrrado Moscoso, as they defeated Canadians Coby Iwaasa and Samuel Murray in the final. 2022 Pan American Racquetball Championships
The 2022 Pan American Championships were held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, April 9-16. Bolivian Angélica Barrios won Women's Singles and fellow Bolivian Conrrado Moscoso won Men's Singles, and both Barrios and Moscoso won for the first time. Barrios's victory was the first for a Bolivian woman at Pan Am Championships, while Moscoso's win was the third consecutive Bolivian gold in Men's Singles, as Carlos Keller won the previous two events. In doubles, Canadians Coby Iwaasa and Samuel Murray won Men's Doubles, which was the 4th Canadian win in the event, but the first for both Iwaasa and Murray. 2023 Pan American Racquetball Championships
The 2023 Pan American Championships were held in Guatemala City, Guatemala, April 1–8. Bolivian Conrrado Moscoso won Men's Singles for the second consecutive year, and Montserrat Mejia won Women's Singles for the first time. Moscoso's win was the fourth consecutive Bolivian gold in Men's Singles, as Carlos Keller won the two events prior to Moscoso. Mejia is the second Mexican woman to win Women's Singles after Paola Longoria.
