Andre Szmyt
Andre Eric Szmyt (born September 26, 1998) is an American professional football placekicker. He played college football for the Syracuse Orange. College career Szmyt redshirted his true freshman year in 2017. In 2018, Szmyt became the first Syracuse kicker and third freshman to win the Lou Groza Award, and was named a unanimous All-American. Szmyt also won the 2018 Vlade Award. After a stellar freshman year, Szmyt's performance was marred by coaching changes and his holders switching. He returned to a better form when Bob Ligashesky took over as the special teams coordinator in 2022. Professional career Chicago Bears Szmyt was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2023. He was waived on August 8. St. Louis Battlehawks On January 22, 2024, Szmyt signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League (UFL). He re-signed with the team on August 21. Placekicker
In gridiron football, the placekicker (PK), or simply kicker (K), is the player responsible for attempts at scoring Field goal (football), field goals and extra points. In most cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist. The term derives from the attempted scorer kicking the ball "from placement" of a teammate holding the ball rather than by individually drop-kicking the ball through the goal posts. All-American College Football Players
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed on outstanding athletes in the United States who are considered to be among the best athletes in their respective sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports have multiple All-America teams, and list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. All-America teams are composed of outstanding U.S. amateur athletes. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. Special Teams
In American football, the specific role that a player takes on the field is referred to as their position. Under the modern rules of American football, both teams are allowed 11 players on the field at one time and have "unlimited free substitutions", meaning that they may change any number of players during any dead ball situation. This has resulted in the development of three task-specific "platoons" of players within any single team: the offense (the team with possession of the ball, which is trying to score), the defense (the team trying to prevent the other team from scoring, and to take the ball from them), and special teams, who play in all kicking situations. Bob Ligashesky
Bob Ligashesky (born June 2, 1962) is an American football coach. He is the special teams coordinator at the University of Minnesota. Ligashesky has been as assistant coach with several teams in the National Football League (NFL). Playing career Ligashesky was a linebacker for the Sto-Rox High School Vikings. He was a three-year letter winner as a defensive back at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). He graduated from IUP in 1985. Coaching career Ligashesky has coached for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2004) and the St. Louis Rams (2005–2006) of the National Football League (NFL). Ligashesky was hired on January 29, 2007, as the Pittsburgh Steelers special teams coach after Kevin Spencer left to coach for the Arizona Cardinals. The Syracuse Orange are the college athletics in the United States, athletic teams that represent Syracuse University. The school is a member of NCAA Division I and the Atlantic Coast Conference. Until 2013, Syracuse was a member of the Big East Conference (1979–2013), Big East Conference. The school's mascot is Otto the Orange.
