It is an earthen irrigation dam with a length of 2940 meters and height of 9.5 meters. The dam provides drinking water to the Virudhunagar district. According to a news article published in 2020, the dam had the capacity to give 2 million litres of water to Virudhunagar every day. In 2015, an investigation was launched against the Public Work Department (PWD) officials for not maintaining the dam which was making all the water of the dam going to waste. Virudhunagar District is a district (an administrative district) of Tamil Nadu state in south India. Virudhunagar is the district headquarters of Virudhunagar district. Virudhunagar district was formed by the separation of Old Ramanathapuram District in 1987 into Ramanathapuram District, Sivagangai District and the west part as Virudhunagar District. Virudhunagar District was formerly called Karmavirer Kamarajar District. As of 2011, Virudhunagar district had a population of 1,942,288 with a sex-ratio of 1,007 females for every 1,000 males. Sivakasi is the most populous and largest city in the district. Demographics According to 2011 census, Virudhunagar district had a population of 1,942,288, up from 1,751,301 in 2001, or about an 11% increase. Arjuna River
Arjuna is a river flowing in the Virudhunagar district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. it is a sacred river which formed during the period of the Pandavas. Arjuna one of the five Pandavas along this river to worship lord Shiva. There is a large Shiva temple named Kasi Viswanatha temple on the side of this river near Watrap. The Anaikuttam Dam was built on this river in 1989.This dam is situated at sivakasi to virudhunagar highway.
