Amyntas B.C.
Amyntas B.C. (), commonly known as Amyntas, is a Greek professional basketball club. The club's full name is Athlitikos Omilos Amyntas Ymittos B.C. The club is located in Dafni-Ymittos, Dafni, a suburb of Athens, Greece. The colors of the team are blue and orange. The club is named after the father of Philip II of Macedon, and grandfather of Alexander the Great, Amyntas III of Macedon. The club's emblem is King Amyntas. History Amyntas B.C. was originally founded in 1950. In 2010, Dafni and A.O. Amyntas merged, creating A.O. Amyntas Dafnis - Ymittos. The club then competed in the 2nd-tier level Greek A2 Basket League, during the 2010–11 season. After that, the two clubs separated again. Arena Amyntas plays its home games at the 600 seat Pyrkal Ymittos Indoor Hall. Greek A2 Basket League
The Greek A2 Basket League (), is a professional basketball league in Greece. It is the 2nd-tier level of pro competition, among clubs in the country. It is organized by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). The league is also known as the Greek Elite League (Ελληνική Ελίτ Λιγκ) for sponsorship reasons. History In the 1986–87 season, the current format for Greek professional basketball, consisting of the A1 National Category and the A2 National Category was formed. Greek Basketball League System
The Greek basketball league system is a number of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Greece. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are nine different competition levels in the system. The highest level competitions are the professional and semi professional nationwide competitions, which include the top-tier level Greek Basketball League (GBL), the second-tier level Greek A2 Basketball League, the third-tier level Greek B Basketball League, and the fourth-tier level Greek C Basketball League. Those competitions are then followed by the regional amateur level competitions, which include: the A1, the A2, the B, the C, and/or the C1, and the C2 categories. Christos Zoupas
Christos Zoupas (Greek: Χρήστος Ζούπας, born 26 November 1944) is a retired Greek professional basketball player. At a height of , he played at the point guard position. Club career Zoupas started playing club basketball with Amyntas in 1960. He then moved to the Greek club AEK Athens in 1962. With AEK, he won 5 Greek League championships (1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1970). He also played in the final four of the FIBA European Champions Cup of the 1965–66 season, which was the first time that the EuroLeague ever used a final four system, thus he was a part of the first Greek team to play in a final four in the EuroLeague. He was also a member of the FIBA European Selection team in the year 1966. Zoupas also helped AEK win the championship of the 2nd-tier level FIBA Cup Winners' Cup of the 1967–68 season, which was the first European championship won by any Greek team, in any sport. Costas Rigas
Costas Rigas (, born 29 March 1944, in Greece), is a retired Greek pro basketball player, and a former pro basketball referee. Rigas is a member of the EuroLeague's 50 greatest contributors. In 2013, he was enshrined into the FIBA Hall of Fame. Playing career Rigas played club basketball with Amyntas, in Greece. He also played with the youth national team of Greece, in one game. Ioannis Karamalegkos (alternative spellings: Giannis, Yiannis, Karamalegos) (Greek: Ιωάννης Καραμαλέγκος; born 19 September 1994 in Maroussi, Athens, Greece) is a Greek professional basketball player. Dimitris Cheilaris (, ; born August 18, 1990) is a Greek professional basketball player who last played for Charilaos Trikoupis of the Greek A2 Basket League. Born in Leonidio, he started his professional career with Amyntas. Subsequently, he moved to Filathlitikos, where he was a teammate with Giannis Antetokounmpo. He played one season of top-tier basketball with Rethymno BC, before returning to the second-tier to play for Iraklis Thessaloniki. Dafnis B.C. is a Greek professional basketball club. The club's full name is Athlitikos Omilos Dafnis B.C., or A.O. Dafnis B.C. The club is located in Dafni, Athens, Greece.
