Amna Elhassan
Amna Elhassan (, born 1988 in Khartoum, Sudan) is a Sudanese visual artist and trained architect, who lives and works in Khartoum. Her artistic work is often focused on the perception of Sudanese women in public and private life, expressed in a variety of media, including printmaking and painting. Life and work experience In 2010, Elhassan obtained a Bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Khartoum, followed in 2013 by a master's degree in architectural design at the Sapienza University in Rome, Italy. After her return to Sudan, she dedicated herself to fine arts and painting, working with her mentor, Sudanese artist Hatim Koko, at the Khartoum Arts Training Centre. Her first exhibitions were shown in Khartoum at Rashid Diab Arts Center and the National Museum of Sudan, among others, from 2016 onwards. Ala Kheir
Ala Kheir (, born April 1, 1985, in Nyala, Sudan) is a Sudanese photographer, cinematographer and mechanical engineer. He became known as one of the founders of the Sudanese Photographers Group in Khartoum in 2009 and through international exhibitions of his photographs, as well as for networking and training for photographers in Africa. Biography and artistic career Kheir studied mechanical engineering in Malaysia and started as a self-taught photographer. Upon his return to Sudan, he and other photographers in Khartoum established the Sudanese Photographers Group. This group started taking and teaching photography as an art form, including other aspiring photographers into their workshops and exhibitions. Khartoum Massacre
The Khartoum massacre occurred on 3 June 2019, when the armed forces of the Sudanese Transitional Military Council, headed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the immediate successor organisation to the Janjaweed militia, used heavy gunfire and teargas to disperse a sit-in by protestors in Khartoum, killing more than 100 people, with difficulties in estimating the actual numbers. At least forty of the bodies had been thrown in the River Nile. Hundreds of unarmed civilians were injured, hundreds of unarmed citizens were arrested, many families were terrorised in their home estates across Sudan, and the RSF raped more than 70 women and men.
