Amadeu Amaral
Amadeu Amaral (full name Amadeu Ataliba Arruda Amaral Leite Penteado) was a Brazilian poet, folklorist, philologist and essayist. He was born in Capivari on November 6, 1875, and died in São Paulo on October 24, 1929. He spent his early years in Capivari and moved to São Paulo at the age of 11. He became a journalist, working at Correio Paulistano and O Estado de Sao Paulo. In 1922 he moved to Rio for a new role at Gazeta de Notícias. From Rio, he sent a regular column "Bilhes do Rio" to O Estado de Sao Paulo. Returning to São Paulo, he held positions in public administration. Amaral was largely self-taught, as he did not complete his secondary education. He dedicated himself to folk studies and to the study of regional dialects. Olavo Bilac
Olavo Brás Martins dos Guimarães Bilac (16 December 1865 – 28 December 1918), known simply as Olavo Bilac (), was a Brazilian Parnassian poet, journalist and translator. Alongside Alberto de Oliveira and Raimundo Correia, he was a member of the "Parnassian Triad". He was elected the "Prince of Brazilian Poets" in 1907 by the magazine '' Fon-Fon''. He wrote the lyrics of the Brazilian Flag Anthem. He founded and occupied the 15th chair of the Brazilian Academy of Letters from 1897 until his death in 1918. He is also the patron of the military service in Brazil due to his campaigns in favor of conscription. Carlos Magalhães De Azeredo
Carlos Magalhães de Azeredo (September 7, 1872 – November 4, 1963) was a Brazilian poet, short story writer, diplomat and journalist. He founded and occupied the 9th chair of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, from 1897 until his death in 1963, thus being the academic that occupied his chair for the longest time (66 years) and the youngest founder of the Academy (he was 25 years old at the time). Life Azeredo was born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1872, to Caetano Pinto de Azeredo (who died three months after Carlos' birth) and Leopoldina Magalhães de Azeredo. Since as a young man, Azeredo would write – when he was 12 years old he wrote a poetry book named ''Inspirações da Infância'', that was never published, and with 17 years old he started to trade letters with Machado de Assis and Mário de Alencar. The Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL) ( English: ''Brazilian Academy of Letters'') is a Brazilian literary non-profit society established at the end of the 19th century. The first president, Machado de Assis, declared its foundation on Tuesday, 15 December 1896, with the by-laws being passed on Thursday, 28 January 1897. On Tuesday, 20 July of the same year, the academy started its operation. According to its statutes, it is the pre-eminent Portuguese council for matters pertaining to the Portuguese language. The ABL is considered the foremost institution devoted to the Portuguese language in Brazil. Its prestige and technical qualification gives it paramount authority in Brazilian Portuguese, even though it is not a public institution and no law grants it oversight over the language. Guilherme De Almeida
Guilherme de Andrade e Almeida (born in Campinas, July 24, 1890 and died in Sao Paulo, July 11, 1969) was a lawyer, journalist, film critic, poet, essayist and Brazilian translator. He helped popularize the Japanese poem style, ''haiku'', in Brazil. He is the son of Estevão de Araújo Almeida, a law teacher and jurist, and Angelina Andrade Almeida. He married Belkiss Barroso de Almeida, and they had a son, Guy Sérgio Haroldo Estevão Zózimo Barroso de Almeida, who married Marina Queiroz Aranha de Almeida. He fought in the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932.
