Alvin Tan (blogger)
Alvin Tan Jye Yee () is a Malaysian pornographic film performer. He gained prominence for a blog publicising his sexual activities with his girlfriend, and later became controversial for his criticism of Islam, leading him to flee Malaysia and seek political asylum in the United States. He calls himself a "free speech activist". Online activities Tan, a Malaysian of Chinese descent, was studying law overseas at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in Singapore. He uploaded videos to his public blog of himself having sex with his ex-girlfriend Vivian Lee, while inviting others to join in. The opposition to these videos led to Tan being stripped of his ASEAN scholarship for the university, and he returned to Malaysia. Pressured by their families, the couple shut down their blog. He is a critic of Islam, comparing it to Nazism, and has called for a "separation of mosque and state". Sedition Act (Malaysia)
The Sedition Act 1948 ( ms, Akta Hasutan 1948) in Malaysia is a law prohibiting discourse deemed as seditious. The act was originally enacted by the colonial authorities of British Malaya in 1948 to contain the local communist insurgence. The act criminalises speech with "seditious tendency", including that which would "bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against" the government or engender "feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races". The meaning of "seditious tendency" is defined in section 3 of thSedition Act 1948and in substance it is similar to the English common law definition of sedition, with modifications to suit local circumstances. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Abdul Gani bin Patail (born 6 October 1955) is a Malaysian prosecutor. He was the Attorney General of Malaysia from 2002 to 2015, the first from Sabah to hold the position (hailing from Lahad Datu and was born in Lahad Datu district).
