Alta Via 3
Alta Via 3 is a high route located in the Italian Dolomites between Niederdorf in the north and Longarone in the south. The route is nicknamed "The Route of Chamois" The Alta Via 3 is a physically demanding trail. It is approximately 100 km long, with an elevation gain of approximately 6,200 meters. Some sections of the route are exposed or steep. Few sections are equipped with steel cable. The trail is well marked with red and white paint splashes, cairns, and occasional dark red triangular symbols containing the number '3'. The entire journey usually takes 8 days. Most hikers walk the trail from north to south, which is the way the route is described in the most guidebooks. The hike starts in Niederdorf, goes through Monta Piana, where are numerous remnants from fights of First World War. Dolomites
The Dolomites ( ), also known as the Dolomite Mountains, Dolomite Alps or Dolomitic Alps, are a mountain range in northeastern Italy. They form part of the Southern Limestone Alps and extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley ( Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley (). The Dolomites are in the regions of Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, covering an area shared between the provinces of Belluno, Vicenza, Verona, Trentino, South Tyrol, Udine and Pordenone. Sorapiss
Sorapiss, also referred to as Sorapis or Punta Sorapiss, is a mountain in the Dolomites within the Veneto region of northern Italy. Situated in the ''comune'' of Cortina d'Ampezzo, it has an elevation of . In its vicinity is a mountain pass of the same name, as well as Sorapiss Lake (Lago di Sorapiss), at the foot of the mountain. The mountain range is part of the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park. Alta Via 2
Alta via 2 is a high route located in the Italian Dolomites between Brixen (Bressanone) in the north and Croce d'Aune near Feltre in the south. The route is nicknamed "The High Route of the legends" and indeed with the exception of its initial and final segments, it maintains an altitude of at least 1300 meters. The trail passes through various mountain ranges including Plose-Putia, Puez-Odle, Sella, Marmolada, Pale di San Martino and Vette Feltrine, and crosses 30 mountain passes. Alta Via 1
Alta Via 1 is a 125-kilometre-long high-level public footpath which runs through the eastern Dolomites in Italy. It is also known as the Dolomite High Route 1. It passes through some of the finest scenery in the Dolomites. The path runs south from Pragser Wildsee, near Toblach, to Belluno. Prags can be accessed by bus, and Belluno has both train and bus services. This is the classic high route in the Dolomites, and also the easiest. It gets slightly more difficult as it goes south, but the only section which might present difficulties is the descent from Schiara, and this can be bypassed. About 7–12 days are required to complete the full route. A typical day on the route might involve about seven hours walking, with ascents and descents of about 1000 meters. The best period for hiking the trail is between late June to the mid-September when the route should be largely free of snow and the refuges are open. Alta Via 4 is a high route located in the Italian Dolomites between Innichen in the north and Pieve di Cadore in the south. The Alta Via 4 is a physically demanding trail. It is approximately 85 km long, with an elevation gain of approximately 4,500 meters. Some sections of the route are exposed or steep. Few sections are equipped with steel cable. The trail is well marked with red and white paint splashes, cairns, and occasional dark blue triangular symbols containing the number '4'. The entire journey usually takes 6 days. Monte Pelmo
Monte Pelmo is a mountain of the Dolomites, in the province of Belluno, Northeastern Italy. The mountain resembles a giant block which stands isolated from other peaks, so can be seen clearly from the neighbouring valleys and from nearby mountains such as Antelao and Monte Civetta. Monte Pelmo was the first major Dolomite peak to be climbed; Englishman John Ball, who later became president of the UK's Alpine Club, succeeded in his ascent in 1877. He set out with a chamois hunter from the Boitevalley towards Monte Pelmo. Over the long ledge named after Ball, which the chamois hunters refused to cross, Ball got into the large cirque, through which he climbed over the small Pelmo glacier to below the summit structure. West of the summit lies a secondary peak, Pelmetto (meaning "Little Pelmo" in Italian), at 2,990m high, which has a high north face. Antelao
Monte Antelao (Cadorino dialect: Nantelòu) is the highest mountain in the eastern Dolomites (a section of the Alps) in northeastern Italy, southeast of the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the region of Cadore. The Monte Antelao is an ultra-prominent peak (Ultra). It is known as the "King of the Dolomites" (Marmolada, the highest of all the Dolomites, is the "Queen" although composed mostly of limestones). As the highest pinnacle of the eastern Dolomites, the Antelao is not part of a closed massif or a high plateau, but a single, mighty rock pyramid.
