Alonzo L. Miles
Alonzo L. Miles (February 3, 1864 – November 3, 1917) was an American politician and lawyer from Maryland. He served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Dorchester County, in 1892 and 1898. Early life Alonzo L. Miles was born on February 3, 1864, on the family farm in Somerset County, Maryland, to Christina (née Roach) and Southey F. Miles. His father was sheriff of Somerset County for a time. He graduated Western Maryland College (later McDaniel College). His brother was Joshua Weldon Miles, who served as a U.S. Representative of Maryland. He later graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law. He was admitted to the bar in Princess Anne in 1885. Career Miles was appointed as collector of the port at Crisfield, replacing his father, during Grover Cleveland's first term. He resigned prior to President Harrison's administration. Maryland House Of Delegates
The Maryland House of Delegates is the lower house of the legislature of the State of Maryland. It consists of 141 delegates elected from 47 districts. The House of Delegates Chamber is in the Maryland State House on State Circle in Annapolis, the state capital. The State House also houses the Maryland State Senate Chamber and the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Maryland. Isaac Nevett Steele (April 25, 1809 – April 11, 1891) was an American diplomat and lawyer who was "universally recognized for years as the leader of the Maryland Bar." Early life Steele was born on April 25, 1809, in Cambridge, Maryland. He was the ninth of ten children born to Mary (née Nevett) Steele (1769–1836) and James Steele (1760–1816). Phillips Lee Goldsborough
Phillips Lee Goldsborough I (August 6, 1865October 22, 1946), was an American Republican politician and member of the United States Senate representing State of Maryland from 1929 to 1935. He was also the 47th Governor of Maryland from 1912 to 1916 and Comptroller of the Maryland Treasury from 1898 to 1900. To date, he is the last Republican to serve as Comptroller of Maryland. Early life and career Goldsborough was born in Princess Anne, Maryland and was educated in public and private schools. While working as a clerk for the United States Navy, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1886, commencing practice in Cambridge, Maryland soon thereafter. Austin Lane Crothers
Austin Lane Crothers (May 17, 1860 – May 25, 1912), was an American politician and a member of the United States Democratic Party, was the 46th Governor of Maryland in the United States from 1908 to 1912. Early life and career Crothers was born near Conowingo in Cecil County, Maryland, the eighth son of Alpheus and Margaret Crothers. He was raised on his father's farm, spending much of his life there. Educated at West Nottingham Academy, he spent several years in the work force, first as a store clerk, then as a public school teacher. He was inspired to become a lawyer, and graduated from the University of Maryland Law School in 1890. He practiced law in Elkton until becoming the State's Attorney for Cecil County, a post he held from 1891 to 1895.
