Almuth Beck
Almuth Beck (born 4 October 1940) is a German educator and politician ( SED/ PDS). After reunification she became the first member of a German parliament (''Landtag'') to be deprived of her parliamentary mandate on account of activities as an Informal collaborator for the Ministry for State Security (Stasi) in what was, at that time, East Germany. This, and successful legal challenges touching on her case, attracted attention across the nation. Biography Almuth Beck was born on 4 October 1940, in Sonneberg, a small and in some ways isolated town in the Thuringian hills to the south of Erfurt. When she was 4, World War II ended and the region found itself in the Soviet occupation zone, relaunched in October 1949 as the Soviet sponsored German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Almuth Berger
Almuth Berger is a German Protestant pastor. In the 1970s she became a peace activist in the German Democratic Republic. In 1989, after several years campaigning on issues affecting immigrants, she was appointed "Commissioner for Foreigners" in the governments of Hans Modrow and Lothar de Maizière. Following reunification she took an equivalent position with the Brandenburg Regional Government between 1991 and 2006. Life Early years Almuth Brennecke was born in Tangermünde, a small town on the western bank of the Elbe, some two years before the end of the war. Later Tangermünde became known for footage taken in 1945 of refugees from what had been designated the Soviet occupation zone struggling to cross the river and reach the zone scheduled for military occupation by British troops, but the Brennecke family remained in what would later become the German Democratic Republic, and Almuth Brennecke grew up in nearby Jerichow on the east side of the river. Jenia (Jean) Graman, nee Almuth Gittermann (12 June 1909, in Odessa, Russian Empire – 28 April 2003, in London) was a dancer and translator, best known for her translation of Kurban Said's novel '' Ali and Nino'' which she translated from the original German into English. When her translation came out in 1970, it became the basis for translations of the novel into many other languages around the world. Graman worked as a dancer in musicals in Nazi Germany. She emigrated to Britain in the 1950s and was naturalised as a British subject on 30 September 1960. She was described then as a commercial artist. In 1967 she sought permission from the publisher of Ali and Nino to translate the novel. Almuth Schult (; born 9 February 1991) is a German former Association football, footballer who played as a goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper and was a member of the Germany women's national football team, Germany national team. She announced her retirement in March 2025. Club career At the age of five, Schult began her career at her local football club FC SG Gartow, before moving to Hamburger SV in 2007.
