Baffin Bay
Baffin Bay (Inuktitut: ''Saknirutiak Imanga''; ; ; ), located between Baffin Island and the west coast of Greenland, is defined by the International Hydrographic Organization as a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean. It is sometimes considered a sea of the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean. It is connected to the Atlantic via Davis Strait and the Labrador Sea. The narrower Nares Strait connects Baffin Bay with the Arctic Ocean. The bay is not navigable most of the year because of the Arctic ice pack, ice cover and high density of Sea ice, floating ice and icebergs in the open areas. Avannaata
Avannaata (, ) is a municipality of Greenland created on 1 January 2018 from the bulk of the former Qaasuitsup municipality. It encompasses an area of 522,700 km2 and has 10,726 inhabitants. Geography In the south, Avannaata is flanked by the Qeqertalik municipality. In the southeast, it is bordered by the Sermersooq municipality; the border runs north–south ( 45° West meridian) through the center of the Greenland ice sheet (), so is free of traffic. In the east and northeast it is bordered by the Northeast Greenland National Park. Pituffik Space Base is an enclave on the Avannaata coast that is administered by the United States Space Force. Disko Bay

Sullorsuaq Strait
Sullorsuaq Strait (old spelling: ''Suvdlorssuaq'', ) is a strait on the western coast of Greenland. Geography The strait separates Nuussuaq Peninsula in the northeast from Qeqertarsuaq Island in the southwest. The strait waterway connects inner Disko Bay in the southeast with Baffin Bay in the northwest. Qeqertarsuatsiaq Island is located in the northeastern mouth of the strait, where it opens into Baffin Bay. At the southeastern end, the large Alluttoq Island is located in the outlet of the strait, at the confluence with Disko Bay. Settlement Saqqaq is the only settlement in the area, located in the southern part on the shores of Nuussuaq Peninsula. Qeqertaq
Qeqertaq (pronounced: (according to the old spelling ''K'eĸertaĸ'')) is a settlement in the Avannaata municipality in western Greenland, located on an island off the southern shore of the Nuussuaq Peninsula in an inlet of Sullorsuaq Strait. Founded in 1830 as Øen, the settlement had 117 inhabitants in 2024.Statistics Greenlandthe colonial era. In 1793, a house with 21 residents was recorded. In 1799, a line-fishing venture was started on the island. Later, in 1805 the venture was abandoned, along with the island. After the Gunboat War ended in 1814, twelve people lived in Qeqertaq again. Nuussuaq Peninsula
Nuussuaq Peninsula (, old spelling: ''Nûgssuaq'') is a large () peninsula in western Greenland. Geography The waters around the peninsula are that of Baffin Bay. To the south and southwest the peninsula is bounded by Disko Bay, an inlet of Baffin Bay. It is separated from Qeqertarsuaq Island by Sullorsuaq Strait, known in Danish as Vaigat Strait, which connects Disko Bay with Baffin Bay. Oqaatsut
Oqaatsut ( Danish: ''Hollandshuk'' or ''Rødebugt''; Dutch: ''Roobay'') is a settlement in Avannaata municipality, in western Greenland. It had 29 inhabitants in 2020. The modern name of the settlement is Kalaallisut for " Cormorants". The village is served by the communal all-purpose Pilersuisoq store. Geography The settlement is located on a small peninsula jutting off the mainland into western Disko Bay (), 14 km north of Ilulissat. The settlement itself faces the shore of the small Akuliarusinnguaq bay, bounded to the north by Qeqertaq island, one of several islands with that name − 'qeqertaq' means 'island' in Greenlandic. Megatsunami
A megatsunami is an incredibly large wave created by a substantial and sudden displacement of material into a body of water. Megatsunamis have different features from ordinary tsunamis. Ordinary tsunamis are caused by underwater tectonic activity (movement of the earth's plates) and therefore occur along plate boundaries and as a result of earthquakes and the subsequent rise or fall in the sea floor that displaces a volume of water. Ordinary tsunamis exhibit shallow waves in the deep waters of the open ocean that increase dramatically in height upon approaching land to a maximum run-up height of around in the cases of the most powerful earthquakes.
