All Liberian Party
The All Liberian Party (ALP) is a political party in Liberia. History The ALP was certified by the National Elections Commission on August 7, 2015. Benoni Urey served as the first standard bearer of the party. Urey is a businessman who previously served as President Charles Taylor's head of Bureau of Maritime Affairs. At the time of the party's founding, he served as chair of LoneStar Communications Corporation, one of Liberia’s largest cell phone companies. In June 2016, Emmanuel Lomax, the first chairman of the ALP, resigned from the party. In November 2016, Bomi County Senator Sando D. Johnson, a founding member of the National Patriotic Party, joined the ALP. In August 2016, the ALP along with 11 other opposition political parties, signed a communique in Ganta to work together against the ruling Unity Party (UP) in the 2017 general election. Joseph Boakai
Joseph Nyumah Boakai (born 30 November 1944) is a Liberian politician who has served as the 26th president of Liberia since 2024. He previously served as the 29th vice president of Liberia from 2006 to 2018, under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and as the minister of agriculture from 1983 to 1985. Boakai ran for president in 2017, losing the election to George Weah. He went on to defeat Weah in the 2023 election. Jeremiah Koung
Jeremiah Kpan Koung Sr. (born 17 March 1978) is a Liberian politician who is the 31st and current vice president of Liberia. He served in the House of Representatives of Liberia from 2012 to 2020, and was elected to the Senate of Liberia in 2020. He became the standard bearer of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction in 2022. The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) is a political party in Liberia. Background In 2010, former warlord, Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson founded the National Union for Democratic Progress (NUDP). He contested the 2011 presidential election with the party. Ahead of the 2014 Senate election, Johnson was expelled from the NUDP. Johnson won re-election to the Senate as an independent. By November 2015, Johnson had begun the task of founding a new political party, the MDR. History The MDR was certified by the National Elections Commission in May 2016. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence (born 2 July 1968) is a Liberian politician who has served as President Pro Tempore of the country's senate since January 2024. 2023 Liberian General Election
General elections were held in Liberia on 10 October 2023 to elect the President of Liberia, President, House of Representatives of Liberia, House of Representatives and half of the Senate of Liberia, Senate. Collaborating Political Parties
The Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) was a political alliance in Liberia. The alliance was originally formed in 2018 by four opposition political parties: the All Liberian Party (ALP), the Unity Party (UP), the Alternative National Congress (ANC), and the Liberty Party (LP). It was certified by the National Elections Commission (NEC) in 2020. By February 2022, the ALP and UP had withdrawn the alliance. By March 2022, a large faction of the LP had left as well.
