Alfred Rolfe (director)
Alfred Rolfe, real name Alfred Roker (1862– 9 September 1943), was an Australian stage and film director and actor, best known for being the son-in-law of the celebrated actor-manager Alfred Dampier, with whom he appeared frequently on stage, and for his prolific output as a director during Australia's Silent film, silent era, including ''Captain Midnight, the Bush King'' (1911), ''Captain Starlight, or Gentleman of the Road'' (1911) and ''The Hero of the Dardanelles'' (1915). Only one of his films as director survives today. Biography Alfred Roker was born in 1862 in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, the son of Arthur Roker & Mary Ann (''née'' Holman). He used the stage-name 'Alfred Rolfe' when he began working as an actor. Raymond Longford (born John Walter Hollis Longford; 23 September 18782 April 1959) was a prolific Australian film director, writer, producer, and actor during the silent era. Longford was a major director of the silent film era of the Australian cinema. He formed a production team with Lottie Lyell. His contributions to Australian cinema with his ongoing collaborations with Lyell, including '' The Sentimental Bloke'' (1919) and ''The Blue Mountains Mystery'' (1921), prompted the Australian Film Institute's AFI Raymond Longford Award, inaugurated in 1968, to be named in his honour. ''Captain Starlight, or Gentleman of the Road'' is a 1911 Australian silent film about the bushranger Captain Starlight. Cosens Spencer
Spencer Cosens (12 February 1874 – 10 September 1930) best known as Cosens Spencer and posthumously as Charles Cozens Spencer, was a British-born Canadian film exhibitor and producer, a significant figure in the early years of the Australian film industry. His company Spencer's Pictures was an early backer of Raymond Longford before it was absorbed into the conglomerate which became known as "The Combine (Australian film industry), The Combine". Philip Lytton
Philip Lytton, (died 21 November 1949) real name Charles Ernest Phillips, was an Australian actor and theatrical entrepreneur best known for producing theatre shows that toured throughout Australia in the early part of the twentieth century. He started as an actor around 1900 and became friends with J. C. Williamson. With Williamson's assistance, he set up acting schools in Sydney and Melbourne, where his students sometimes appeared in Williamson shows. From 1907 to 1923 he ran tent theatre companies which took theatre productions throughout country towns in Australia and New Zealand. Along with Edward Irham Cole, E. I. Cole, Lytton helped pioneer tent theatre in Australia, enabling shows to reach audiences without established venues. ''The Burns-Johnson Fight'' (or ''Burns-Johnson Contest'') is a 1908 documentary film of the boxing fight between Tommy Burns and Jack Johnson at Sydney Stadium, Rushcutters Bay, on 26 December 1908 for the World Heavyweight Championship title, which Johnson won.
