Alexa Knierim
Alexa Paige Knierim ( Scimeca; born June 10, 1991) is an American former competitive pair skater. With her skating partner, Brandon Frazier, she is the 2022 World champion, the 2023 World silver medalist, a 2022 Olympic gold medalist in the figure skating team event, the 2022 Grand Prix Final silver medalist, a two-time U.S. National champion (2021, 2023), and a three-time Grand Prix gold medalist. With her husband and former skating partner, Chris Knierim, she is a 2018 Olympic bronze medalist in the figure skating team event, a two-time Four Continents medalist ( 2016 silver, 2014 bronze), a three-time Grand Prix medalist (1 silver, 2 bronze), and a three-time U.S. National champion (2015, 2018, 2020). 2016 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
The 2016 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships was an international figure skating competition in the 2015–16 season. It was held at the Taipei Arena in Taipei, Taiwan on February 16–21. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Qualification The competition was open to skaters from non-European member nations of the International Skating Union who reached the age of 15 before 1 July 2015. The corresponding competition for European skaters was the 2016 European Figure Skating Championships. National associations selected their entries based on their own criteria but the ISU mandated that their selections achieve a minimum technical elements score (TES) at an international event prior to the Four Continents. Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
The Four Continents Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU). Medals are awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. The ISU established the Four Continents Championships to provide skaters from non-European countries with a similar competition to the European Figure Skating Championships. The first Four Continents Championships were held in 1999 in Halifax, Canada. Only eligible skaters from ISU member countries in Africa, Asia, North America, Oceania, and South America are allowed to compete. Patrick Chan of Canada holds the record for winning the most Four Continents Championship titles in men's singles (with three), while Mao Asada and Fumie Suguri of Japan are tied for winning the most championships in women's singles (with three each). Broadmoor World Arena (1998)
The Broadmoor World Arena (originally known as the Colorado Springs World Arena) in Colorado Springs, Colorado is an 8,000 seat multi-purpose arena and entertainment venue. The arena opened in 1998. In addition to the main arena, the adjacent Ice Hall contains two practice rinks, one NHL-sized and one Olympic-sized. The facility is home to world-class concerts and events, the Broadmoor Skating Club (BSC), numerous elite figure skating, figure skaters, and the Colorado Gold Speedskating Club. It was home to the US National Short Track Speedskating Team until the summer of 2007 when the team moved to Utah Olympic Oval. Dalilah Sappenfield
Dalilah Sappenfield is an American former figure skating coach and choreographer who specialized in pair skating. She started working as a coach in 1993, and was named the 2008 USFSA/PSA Coach of the Year, after her pair teams won the gold medals at the novice, junior, and senior levels at the 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Her pair Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She is the adoptive mother of Laureano Ibarra, and he and his first partner were her first pair team. In May 2024, Sappenfield was permanently banned by the United States Center for SafeSport for physical and emotional misconduct, retaliation, abuse of process, and failure to report a potential SafeSport violation. Evgenia Vasilievna Shishkova (; 18 December 1972 – 29 January 2025) was a Russian figure skating coach and competitor. With her husband Vadim Naumov, she was the 1994 world champion and the 1995–96 Champions Series Final champion. Shishkova died on 29 January 2025, when American Eagle Flight 5342 collided with an U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter while the jet was on approach to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Vadim Vladimirovich Naumov (; 7 April 1969 – 29 January 2025) was a Russian pair skater. With his wife Evgenia Shishkova, he was the 1994 world champion and the 1995–96 Champions Series Final champion. Twist Lifts
Figure skating lifts are required elements in two disciplines of figure skating: pair skating and ice dance. There are five groups of lifts in pair skating, categorized in order of increasing level of difficulty. Judges look for the following when evaluating pair lifts: speed of entry and exit; control of the woman's free leg when she is exiting out of the lift, with the goal of keeping the leg high and sweeping; the position of the woman in the air; the man's footwork; quick and easy changes of position; and the maintenance of flow throughout the lift.
