Alex Kerr (Australian Footballer)
Alexander Kerr (13 November 1880 – 1 February 1965) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Kerr, known by his nickname of "Bubs", was a rover, recruited from Metropolitan Junior Football Association side Port Rovers. A knee injury brought an early end to his debut season and kept him out of action for over a year, until he came back into the team late in the 1907 VFL season. In just his third game back, Kerr kicked four goals in a semi final win over Collingwood. He then appeared as one of South Melbourne's followers in the 1907 Grand Final, which ended in a Carlton victory. He appeared in all possible 21 games for South Melbourne in 1909, including their grand final win, when they reversed the result from two years earlier and defeated Carlton. Alex Kerr (born June 16, 1952) is an American writer and Japanologist. Biography Originally from the Bethesda area in Montgomery County, Maryland, Kerr's father, a naval officer, was posted in Yokohama from 1964 to 1966. Kerr returned to the states and studied Japanese Studies at Yale University. After studying Chinese Studies at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, Kerr moved back to Japan full-time in 1977. He lived in Kameoka, near Kyoto, working with the Oomoto Foundation, a Shintō organisation devoted to the practise and teaching of traditional Japanese arts. An expert on Japanese culture and art, he frequently writes and lectures in Japanese. Through his experiences in Japan, as related in his books, he has become an avid art collector and patron of Japan's traditional theatre and other arts. Alexandra Catherine Kerr (born July 23, 2001) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward. She played collegiately for the Vanderbilt Commodores and Texas Tech Red Raiders before being drafted by the Orlando Pride in the 2024 NWSL Draft. Early life Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Kerr was raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She played multiple sports growing up, including basketball and tennis, before committing to soccer while at Chapel Hill High School. She set a single-season school record with 44 goals as a sophomore and scored 42 goals as a senior in 2019. She earned all-conference, all-state, and all-region honors and was the conference player of the year in 2019. She played DA club soccer for the NC Courage, where she led the team with 16 goals in 2018. She committed to play soccer at Vanderbilt University over offers from Princeton, USC, and Virginia.
