Bristol Parkway Railway Station
Bristol Parkway, on the South Wales Main Line, is in the Stoke Gifford area in the northern suburbs of the Bristol conurbation. It is from London Paddington. The station was opened in 1972 by British Rail, and was the first in a new generation of park and ride/parkway stations. It is the third-most heavily used station in the West of England local authority area, after Bristol Temple Meads and . There are four platforms, and a well-equipped waiting area. The station is managed by Great Western Railway, who provide most of the trains at the station, with CrossCountry providing the rest. Wootton Bassett Junction Railway Station
Wootton Bassett Junction railway station, formerly Wootton Bassett railway station, was a junction station in Wootton Bassett where the Great Western and South Wales Main Lines diverge. Opened in 1841, it closed in 1965. History Wootton Bassett railway station opened on 30 July 1841, when the Great Western Main Line from London Paddington was extended from Chippenham through the Box Tunnel through to Bristol Temple Meads. It replaced Wootton Bassett Road, about to the east as the station serving Wootton Bassett. The railway was double track with a platform on each side of the line and a small stone building on each. The main offices were on the north side of the line but a goods shed was provided on the south side at the London end of the platform. Alderton, Wiltshire
Alderton is a village in Wiltshire, England, southwest of Malmesbury, in the civil parish of Luckington. The South Wales Main Line, the main railway from Swindon to Bristol and South Wales, runs close to the south of the village where it passes through the Alderton Tunnel. Parish church There was a church at Alderton in the 12th century, later dedicated to St Giles. In 1844–5 it was rebuilt by James Thomson at the expense of Joseph Neeld, who bought Alderton manor in 1927. Re-used elements from the earlier building include the north doorway and the three-bay arcade, both of c. 1200; and from the 15th century, the nave roof and the rood screen. Some masonry from the old church was re-used in the building of the nearby school, also at Neeld's expense. Thomson worked on other churches in the area, including St Margaret's, Leigh Delamere. 21st-century Modernisation Of The Great Western Main Line
Network Rail planned to spend £5 billion on modernising the Great Western Main Line, its South Wales branch and other associated lines. The modernisation plans were announced at separate times but their development time-scales overlap in the 2010s. The work included electrification, resignalling, new rolling stock and station upgrades. According to Network Rail, the modernisation started in June 2010 and was due to end in 2017. , electrification was complete as far west as Cardiff Central, and also from Reading to Newbury. The project has been subject to repeated delays.
