Alaipayudhey
''Alai Payuthey'', also spelled as ''Alaipayuthey'' ( ), is a 2000 Indian Tamil-language romantic musical film co-written, co-produced, and directed by Mani Ratnam, starring R. Madhavan and Shalini. The film explores the tensions of married life between two young people who elope and the maturing of love among urban Indians who are conflicted between tradition and modernity. The score and soundtrack were composed by A. R. Rahman. The film's story is mostly recollected in flashbacks by Karthik (Madhavan), on how he and Shakthi (Shalini) fall in love against the backdrop of Chennai and its suburban trains, against the wishes of their parents. The film had a mostly positive reception by critics. The film made its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2001. It was shown at various film festivals nationally and internationally. It was dubbed and released in Telugu under the title ''Sakhi''. Venu Arvind is an Indian actor. He is known for his roles in television serials of K. Balachander and Kovai Anuradha. He initially gained popularity as lead hero of television serials with ''Costly Mappilai'' (1996), ''Green Signal'' (1997) both directed by Kovai Anuradha. Then K. Gopalaratnam Subramaniam (born 2 June 1956), known professionally as Mani Ratnam, is an Indian film director, film producer and screenwriter who predominantly works in Tamil cinema and a few Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. He has won seven National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, six Filmfare Awards South, and numerous awards at various film festivals across the world. Azhagam Perumal is an Indian film director and actor, who works in Tamil film Industry. Career Azhagam Perumal hails from the village of Kulasekharapuram in Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu. Sukumari
Sukumari Amma (6 October 1940 – 26 March 2013) was an Indian actress best known for her works in Malayalam and Tamil films. In a career spanning more than five decades, She has appeared in more than 2500 films predominantly in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, along with few Hindi and one each in Sinhala, French, Italian, Bengali, Tulu, English and Kannada films.
