Al-Zawra'a Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional sports club based in Utayfia, Karkh District (near Tigris River), Baghdad. Their football team competes in the Iraq Stars League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawra'a have won the most major honours of any club in Iraq, having won 14 league titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups and 5 Iraqi Super Cups—all record totals. Al-Zawra'a also won the Baghdad Championship a joint-record three times. Al-Zawra'a have won the domestic double a record eight times and became only the second Iraqi team to win the domestic quadruple in the 1999–2000 season. In 2022, Al-Zawra'a opened the new all-seater Al-Zawraa Stadium which replaced the club's old ground at the same site. Al-Zawraa Stadium
Al-Zawra'a Stadium () is an association football stadium located in Baghdad, Iraq. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home of Al-Zawraa SC. The stadium was inaugurated in February 2022 and seats 15,443 spectators. History The stadium is located in a residential area in the middle of Baghdad. The old stadium held 15,000 people and was built in 1978. In 2011, the construction of a new stadium for Al-Zawraa SC was announced to replace the old stadium and to provide modern sports facilities for the population of Baghdad. In January 2012, the old stadium was demolished. The demolition and construction of the new Al-Zawra'a Stadium was entrusted to Boland Payeh Co, an Iranian company. The 1980–81 Iraq FA Cup was the fifth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a club competition. The tournament was won by Al-Zawraa for the third time, beating 1980–81 Iraqi National League champions Al-Talaba 1–0 in the final with a goal from Thamir Yousef. Al-Zawraa's previous results in the tournament included a 3–0 win over Al-Najaf FC, Al-Najaf a 1–0 win over Al-Shabab SC (Baghdad), Al-Shabab and a 2–0 win over Al-Amana. 1978–79 Iraq FA Cup
The 1978–79 Iraq FA Cup was the third edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a club competition. The tournament was won by Al-Zawraa, beating Al-Jaish 3–1 in the final on 3 May 1979 to secure their second cup, with goals from Hazem Jassam, Ibrahim Ali and Thamir Yousef. Al-Zawraa's previous matches in the tournament were a 7–0 win over Al-Hurriya, a 3–1 win over Al-Ittihad, a 4–0 win over Al-Shorta and a 6–0 win over Al-Shabab. Meanwhile, Al-Jaish had beaten Al-Tayaran 5–4 on penalties after a 0–0 draw in the semi-finals, after Al-Tayaran had earlier beaten Al-Minaa 2–0 in the quarter-finals. The 1978–79 Iraqi National Clubs League (First Division) was the 5th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. 1976–77 Iraqi National League
The 1976–77 Iraqi National Clubs League (First Division) was the 3rd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Due to scheduling difficulties, the season had to be cut short during the second half of the season. The Iraq Football Association decided to annul the results from the second half of the season, using the league table at the halfway stage of the campaign (when each team had played each other once) as the final standings, and crowned Al-Zawraa as the champions for their second consecutive league title. Al-Zawraa lost one of their games from the second half of the season 3–2 against Al-Baladiyat, and Al-Talaba SC, Al-Jamiea lost one of their games in the second half of the season 3–2 against Al-Zawraa, but because the second half of the season was annulled, Al-Zawraa and Al-Jamiea were both considered to have finished the season without a single loss. Al-Naqil Sports Club (, meaning ''Transport Sports Club''), was an Iraqi sports club based in Baghdad that was founded in 1937 under the name Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed (, meaning ''Railways''). They were renamed Al-Naqil in 1974, competing in the first season of the Iraqi Premier League (the top tier of Iraqi club football) and finishing as runners-up. The club was dissolved in 1975 as they had no administration or financial backing. Their football players left to join newly promoted club Al-Zawraa, who went on to become one of Iraqi football's most successful clubs. The 1974–75 Iraqi National Clubs Second Division was the first season of what is now called the Iraqi Premier Division League, the second tier of the Iraqi football league system, since its establishment in 1974. 18 teams participated in the tournament. The league started on October 31, 1974. Al-Zawraa won the league championship and was promoted to the First Division (now called the Stars League), along with the four teams that finished the tournament in the first five positions in the standings, namely; Al-Jamiea, Al-Iktisad, Al-Hilla and Diyala. Iraqi Premier Division League
The Iraqi Premier Division League () is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Iraq Stars League. The league is contested by 20 clubs and is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Premier Division League are automatically promoted to the Stars League, while the third-placed team enters a promotion play-off.
