Iraqi Third Division League
The Iraqi Third Division League is a football league that is the fifth tier of the Iraqi football league system. The league was established in 2024. League format Each team can register up to 25 players in their squad list, and each club is required to have a formal establishment licence issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The format of the league for the inaugural 2024–25 season is as follows: First stage Teams are split into 18 regional tournaments in accordance with the 18 governorates of Iraq. Each tournament is organised by the Iraq Football Association's sub-branch in that governorate (except for the tournament in Baghdad which is organised by the IFA Competitions Committee). A total of 42 teams qualify for the second stage. Habib Jaafar
Habib Jafar Akal (; born 1 July 1966) is a former Iraqi footballer. He was featured on the national team many times and is remembered for competing in various Gulf Cup competitions. In the 1988 Gulf Cup, he was voted as the best player of the competition. He became a regular of the national team at a young age and was almost even called up for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, but he was thought to be to inexperienced by then-coach, Evaristo de Macedo. Career He was a key player in the Iraqi national team during the late 1980s and through the 1990s. Habib first appeared in the national team in 1988, playing in the Arab Championship, Olympics in Seoul and the Gulf Cup, where he was voted as player of the tournament. 2020–21 Iraq FA Cup
The 2020–21 Iraq FA Cup was the 31st edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup as a club competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football, featuring 126 teams (20 from the Iraqi Premier League and 106 from the Iraqi First Division League and Iraqi Second Division League). It started on 20 October 2020 and the final was played on 19 July 2021 at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. The winners of the competition were Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, who won their fifth title with a penalty shootout victory over Al-Zawraa, becoming the first Iraqi club to win the double since the 2001–02 season. The competition began on 10 September 2021 with the first-round matches involving teams from the third and fourth tiers, and the final was played on 16 July 2022 at Al-Madina Stadium in Baghdad.
