Akron Zips Football
The Akron Zips football team is a college football program representing the University of Akron in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Akron plays its home games at InfoCision Stadium on the campus of the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. The Zips compete in the Mid-American Conference (MAC); it had been in the conference's East Division before the MAC eliminated its football divisions in 2024. The team was established in 1891 when the school was known as Buchtel College; it became the University of Akron in 1913. In 1926, the athletic teams were named the Zippers, after Zippers#History, rubber boots manufactured by the B.F. Goodrich Company, which was headquartered in Akron at the time. 2013 Mid-American Conference Football Season
The 2013 Mid-American Conference football season was the 68th season for the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The University of Massachusetts who joined the conference the previous season would now be eligible for the conference championship as well as bowl games. Last season at the MAC Football Championship Game, Marathon MAC Championship game, 2012 Northern Illinois Huskies football team, Northern Illinois defeated 2012 Kent State Golden Flashes football team, Kent State 44–37 for the championship. Tom Arth
Thomas Edward Arth (born May 11, 1981) is an American football coach and former player who is the quarterbacks coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). Arth previously served as the head football coach at John Carroll University from 2013 to 2016, the University of Tennessee Chattanooga from 2017 to 2018, and the University of Akron from 2019 to 2021. Playing career Arth attended Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland. In 1998, he took the reins as the starting quarterback for the perennial national power and led the Wildcats to the Division I state semifinals, where they lost to defending national champion and eventual state champion Canton McKinley High School. Over the course of the 1998 season, Arth threw for over 2,100 yards and 24 touchdowns. At John Carroll University, Arth started for four years at quarterback for the Blue Streaks, and set 18 program records. He earned unanimous All-American honors as a junior and senior. The 2018 Mid-American Conference football season will be the 73rd season for the Mid-American Conference (MAC). and is part of the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The season will begin on August 30 and will end on November 24. The entire schedule was released on February 22. 2018 Akron Zips Football Team
The 2018 Akron Zips football team represented the University of Akron in the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by seventh-year head coach Terry Bowden and played their home games at InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field in Akron, Ohio as members of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. They finished the season 4–8, 2–6 in MAC play to finish in a tie for fourth place in the East Division. On December 2, Akron fired head coach Terry Bowden. He finished at Akron with a seven-year record of 35–52. On December 14, the school hired Chattanooga head coach Tom Arth for the head coaching job. 2017 Boca Raton Bowl
The 2017 Boca Raton Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 19, 2017, at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida, United States. The fourth edition of the Boca Raton Bowl featured the Conference USA champion Florida Atlantic Owls against the Mid-American Conference East Division champion Akron Zips. Kickoff was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST and the game aired on ESPN. It was one of the 2017–18 bowl games that concluded the 2017 FBS football season. The 2017 Akron Zips football team represented the University of Akron in the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by sixth-year head coach Terry Bowden and played their home games at InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field in Akron, Ohio, as members of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. The Zips finished the season 7–7, 6–2 in MAC play to win the East Division. They lost to Toledo in the MAC Championship. The 2015 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl was a college football bowl game that was played on December 22, 2015 at Albertsons Stadium on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho.
