Akasha are an English electronic music duo, comprising Charlie Casey and Damian Hand. They were originally signed to the Wall of Sound record label, but now are releasing through Ra Recordings. History Formed in 1994 in Brixton, London, Casey contributes electronics, guitar, and vocals, with Hand contributing saxophone, flute, and vocals.Akasha to perform in Valletta , ''Times of Malta'', 17 December 2004. Jerry Dammers
Jeremy David Hounsell Dammers GCOT (born 22 May 1955) is a British musician who was a founder, keyboard player and primary songwriter of the Coventry-based ska band The Specials (also known as The Special A.K.A.) and later The Spatial AKA Orchestra. Through his foundation of the record label Two Tone, his work blending political lyrics and punk with Jamaican music, and his incorporation of 60's retro clothing, Dammers is a pivotal figure of the ska revival. He has also been acknowledged in his work for racial unity. Biography Dammers was born in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, South India, the son of Horace Dammers who was later Dean of Bristol Cathedral from 1973 to 1987. Anita Lipnicka
Anita Lipnicka (born 13 June 1975) is a Polish singer and songwriter. Her career as a singer started in Varius Manx, a band with which she achieved a great success. In 1996, she made a decision to pursue a solo career, she left the band and moved to London where she made her first solo album. The album was called "Wszystko się może zdarzyć" (Everything Can Happen) and was a huge success. In 1998 Lipnicka released her second solo album "To, co naprawdę" (What Is Real). In 2000, her third solo album appeared-"Moje oczy sa zielone" (My eyes are green). In 2001, Lipnicka started to work with John Porter. Together they recorded two albums, "Nieprzyzwoite piosenki" (Indecent Songs) in 2003 and "Inside Story" in 2005. Both albums were all in English. Sarah Cracknell (born 12 April 1967) is an English singer-songwriter and lead singer of the electronic music band Saint Etienne. Career Cracknell's career started with the Windsor-based indie band The Worried Parachutes in 1982. Following the demise of the band she released a solo single, ''Love Is All You Need'', in 1987. With friend Mick Bund, she then formed a new band, Prime Time, who released a handful of singles. She appeared on 1990 dance track ''Fingertips'' by Lovecut DB. Saint Etienne was originally to be an indie dance act featuring various vocalists. After Moira Lambert sang on their initial 1990 single "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and Donna Savage was heard on the follow-up single "Kiss and Make Up", Cracknell lent her vocals to "Nothing Can Stop Us" and ended up doing the rest of the singing on their debut album '' Foxbase Alpha''. The Spatial AKA Orchestra
The Spatial AKA Orchestra is a music ensemble led by Jerry Dammers of The Specials, an English 2 Tone ska band popular in the late 1970s (which also went by the name the Special AKA). Dammers formed the orchestra in 2006 as a tribute to American jazz musician Sun Ra, though it grew to include other genres such as reggae, funk, and classical music. The shows are as much about theater as music. At a festival in Norwich, England, Dammers donned a golden mask behind a row of keyboards on a stage cluttered with Egyptian mannequins, astronauts, and spaceships. The rest of the band emerged disguised as aliens and superheroes. Over 20 band members populated the stage during the night including Denys Baptiste, Larry Bartley, Roger Beaujolais, and Finn Peters. Art of Noise (also The Art of Noise) were an English avant-garde synth-pop group formed in early 1983 by engineer/producer Gary Langan and programmer J. J. Jeczalik, along with keyboardist/arranger Anne Dudley, producer Trevor Horn, and music journalist Paul Morley. The group had international Top 20 hits with its interpretations of " Kiss", featuring Tom Jones, and the instrumental "Peter Gunn", which won a 1986 Grammy Award. The group's mostly instrumental compositions were novel melodic sound collages based on digital sampler technology, which was new at the time.
