1993 Mizoram Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly were held in November 1993 to elect members of the 40 constituencies in Mizoram, India. The Indian National Congress won the most seats and its leader in Mizoram, Lal Thanhawla was appointed as the Chief Minister of Mizoram for the third time. Mizo National Front won the popular vote. The term of the assembly formed after the previous election in 1989, was supposed to end in 1994, but the election was held ahead of schedule, owing to the Gospel Centenary celebrations, the centenary of the introduction of the gospel to the Mizo people. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is a constitutional body. It was established by the Constitution of India to conduct and regulate elections in the country. Article 324 of the Constitution provides that the power of superintendence, direction, and control of elections to parliament, state legislatures, the office of the president of India, and the office of vice-president of India shall be vested in the election commission. The legislative assembly election was held on 28 November 2018 to elect members of the 40 constituencies in Mizoram. Mizo National Front won 26 seats in the election. This was the first time that Congress does not have any government in any of the states in Northeast India. Background The tenure of Mizoram Legislative Assembly was due to end on 15 December 2018. 2013 Mizoram Legislative Assembly Election
The Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, 2013 was held on 25 November 2013 in all 40 constituencies of the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram. Results were declared on 9 December. The main contest was between incumbent the Indian National Congress and the Mizo National Front led Mizoram Democratic Alliance. Incumbent Chief Minister Pu Lalthanhawla and his party Indian National Congress won a majority and continued in government. Background The election for 40 seats legislative assembly was held on 25 November 2013. There were 6.9 lakh eligible voters. 1989 Mizoram Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly were held in November 1989 to elect members of the 40 constituencies in Mizoram, India. The Indian National Congress won the majority of seats and its leader in Mizoram, Lal Thanhawla was appointed as the Chief Minister of Mizoram; his second time in the role. In 1987, the Mizo National Front won the elections and started governing for their 5-year term. But, within 18 months, there were defections from the party, by members who wanted Cabinet positions, which reduced the government to a minority in the Assembly. President's rule was imposed on Mizoram, in September 1988 and elections were called for in 1989. Zoram People's Movement
The Zoram People's Movement ( abbreviated ZPM) is an alliance of seven party to form non Indian National Congress non Mizo National Front government formed by Mizoram People's Conference . It is an alliance movement, the members are Mizoram People's Conference Zoram Nationalist Party, Zoram Exodus Movement, Zoram Decentralisation Front, Zoram Reformation Front and Mizoram People's Party. Later all these parties merged into a single entity. In 2018 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, it has emerged as movement group and support some independent candidate with same symbol, flag and policy and won 8 seats.
