Afshin Naghouni
Afshin Naghouni is an Iranian-British visual artist, known for his controversial, larger-than-life paintings. From a critique about Naghouni’s paintings around the turn of the century: ''he works in an expressive and cubist style that explores every aspect of each object in his compositions, simultaneously.'' Early life and education Afshin Naghouni (Ash) was born on August 25, 1969 at Ahvaz, Iran, to Sediheh ( Mohammadzaal) and Jahangir Naghouni. Naghouni was considered to be a child prodigy. For as long as he remembers he was holding a pen or a pencil. He started painting and drawing when he was four or five years old. Ahvaz ( fa, اهواز, Ahvâz ) is a city in the southwest of Iran and the capital of Khuzestan province. Maryam Eisler (née Homayoun) is an Iranian-born, London-based artist and former marketer. She is known as a photographer, writer, book editor, art collector, and she serves on many boards. Early life and education Born in Tehran, Iran in 1968, Eisler emigrated to Paris, France at age 10. Eisler holds a BA degree in Political Science from Wellesley College (1989) and an MBA degree from Columbia University (1993). She has worked in consumer marketing at L'Oreal (1993–1998) followed by Estee Lauder (1998– 2001) in both London and New York City. The ZCMI Center Mall was a shopping center near Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States that was owned by Zions Securities Corporation (now Utah Property Management Associates), which opened in 1975 and closed in 2007. PaykanArtCar is a non-profit organization based in Florida, US. The organization has purchased a car, now also called the PaykanArtCar, and intends to let different Iranian activist artists paint it annually as an art project, meant to highlight various political issues and repressed communities in Iran. The car is an Iranian Paykan, gifted in 1974 by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran to Nicolae Ceaușescu, dictator of Romania. It was bought at an auction in 2021 for €95 000. The art car was first exhibited in October 2021 at the Oslo Freedom Forum in Miami, held by the Human Rights Foundation (HRF). The first artist to paint the car was Alireza Shojaian, an exiled Iranian. Paykan
The Paykan ( fa, پيکان meaning ''Arrow'') is the first Iranian-made car produced by Iran Khodro (formerly called "Iran National") between 1967 and 2005. The car was very popular in Iran from its introduction until its discontinuation. It is often colloquially referred as the Iranian chariot. The Paykan was a Hillman Hunter built under licence, but had some unique body work and locally developed variants (most notably, the pickup, which used a different body shell from the one sold elsewhere).
