''Afrika'' is a 1973 Italian film directed by Alberto Cavallone. At the center of the story is a homosexual relationship set in Africa. Plot Philippe, a bisexual painter, is living through a crisis. He is torn between his love for his wife and his attraction for young men. In Ethiopia, he meets Frank, a young homosexual, falls in love with him and takes him in as his secretary, making him part of the family like he has done with other young men. In the end, he abandons Frank just as he has undergone a sex change. The young man's disappointment causes him to commit suicide by a bullet to his temple, with the aid of his sister, who - pressured by her macho husband - was not able to live with her brother's homosexuality. Afrika (artist)
Sergei Bugaev (born 28 March 1966), more commonly known as Afrika, is a Russian artist. He was born in Novorossiysk, on the Black Sea, and in the early 1980s moved to Leningrad, where he met and became friends with leaders of the art scene there, such as the painter Timur Novikov and musician Boris Grebenshchikov. Shortly thereafter he adopted the artistic moniker "Afrika" and began working as an artist himself. In 1987 he starred as Bananan, the lead character in the groundbreakingly avant garde film '' Assa'' by Russian film director Sergei Solovyov. Afrika works mainly in performance and installation art. His 1993 project "Krimania" took the form of an initial performance, which involved the artist spending three weeks in a mental institution in Simferopol, Crimea, at the end of which he staged an exhibition for the patients and staff of the hospital. Lance Taylor (born April 17, 1957), also known as Afrika Bambaataa (), is a retired American DJ, rapper, and record producer. He is notable for releasing a series of genre-defining electro tracks in the 1980s that influenced the development of hip hop culture. Afrika Bambaataa is one of the originators of breakbeat DJing. Through his co-opting of his street gang Black Spades into the music and culture-oriented organization Universal Zulu Nation, he has helped spread hip hop culture throughout the world. Cecil Sebastian Afrika (born 3 March 1988) is a South African rugby sevens player for the South Africa national team, where he plays at flyhalf. Ismail Joubert (7 December 1920 – 23 December 2002), commonly known as Tatamkhulu Afrika, which is Xhosa for ''Grandfather Africa'', was a South African poet and writer. His first novel, ''Broken Earth'' was published when he was seventeen (under his "Methodist name"), but it was over fifty years until his next publication, a collection of verse entitled ''Nine Lives''. He won numerous literary awards including the gold Molteno Award for lifetime services to South African literature, and in 1996, his works were translated into French. His autobiography, ''Mr Chameleon'', was published posthumously in 2005. The German Africa Corps (, ; DAK), commonly known as Afrika Korps, was the German expeditionary force in Africa during the North African campaign of World War II. First sent as a holding force to shore up the Italian defense of its African colonies, the formation fought on in Africa, under various appellations, from March 1941 until its surrender in May 1943. The McAfrika was a hamburger sold by the fast food restaurant chain McDonald's in Norway and Denmark and "traded" as a Limited Edition Olympic Games Burger. It attracted significant public criticism as a result of its name and the timing of its launch. Product The McAfrika sandwich contained beef, cheese, and tomatoes wrapped in pita bread. McDonald's claimed it was based upon an authentic African recipe. Public reaction The McAfrika was released in 2002, just as a major famine was occurring in Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Lesotho and Swaziland. The name of the burger was immediately criticized for being grossly insensitive, especially since it was released in Norway, one of the richest nations in the world. Norwegian Church Aid and the Norwegian Red Cross, which were both conducting humanitarian operations in southern Africa at the time, said that McDonald's decision was insensitive, crass and ill-considered.
