Adrien Barthe
Adrien Barthe, born Grat-Norbert Barthe (7 June 1828 – 13 August 1898), was a French composer. Career Born in Bayonne, Barthe studied music under Aimé Leborne at the Paris Conservatory. An early composition, ''Francesca de Rimini'', was lauded by the Rome Institute, and his subsequent cantatas ''Judith'' and ''Don Carlos'' were well received. Performances of ''Aubade'' in 1893 by conductor Paul Taffanel were popular with audiences to the extent that Taffanel published praise of Barthe: "your delightful work earned us our first success".Blakeman, p. 70. Moving from composition to theatre work, Barthe's ''La Fiancée d'Abydos'' appeared on stage in Paris and Rome, starring Jean-Vital Jammes, however, flaws in the composition persuaded Barthe to retire shortly after December 1865, becoming a teacher. Bayonne
Bayonne () is a city in southwestern France near the France–Spain border, Spanish border. It is a communes of France, commune and one of two subprefectures in France, subprefectures in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques departments of France, department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions of France, region. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Aimé Leborne
Aimé Ambroise Simon Leborne (or Aimé Le Borne) (29 December 1797 – 2 April 1866) was a French composer and music educator, who made his career in Paris. Life Born in Brussels, Leborne was the son of an actor and spent his youth in Versailles where he learned the violin. Leborne then studied at the Conservatoire de Paris where he was a pupil of Victor Dourlen for harmony and Luigi Cherubini for composition. In 1818, he obtained the second Prix de Rome for the cantata ''Jeanne d'Arc'' and in 1820, the First Grand Prix de Rome for the scene ''Sophonisbe''. That same year, he was appointed professor of solfège. In 1836, he succeeded Antoine Reicha as teacher of the counterpoint and fugue class. In 1840, he became professor of composition. Leborne wrote a ''Traité d'harmonie'' which was not published. He reissued Charles-Simon Catel's ''Traité complet d'harmonie''. The Conservatoire de Paris (), or the Paris Conservatory, is a college of music and dance founded in 1795. Officially known as the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (; CNSMDP), it is situated in the avenue Jean Jaurès in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, France. The Conservatoire offers instruction in music and dance, drawing on the traditions of the 'French School'. Paul Taffanel
Claude-Paul Taffanel (16 September 1844 – 22 November 1908) was a French flautist, conductor and instructor, regarded as the founder of the French Flute School that dominated much of flute composition and performance during the mid-20th century. Early years Born in Bordeaux, Taffanel received his first lessons on the flute from his father at the age of nine. After giving his first concert at the age of ten, he studied with Vincent Dorus at the Paris Conservatoire. Once he graduated in 1860, he won his first of several awards for flute performance at age sixteen.
