, Barthe studied music under Aimé Leborne at the Paris Conservatory. An early composition, ''Francesca de Rimini'', was lauded by the Rome Institute, and his subsequent cantatas ''Judith'' and ''Don Carlos'' were well received. Performances of ''Aubade'' in 1893 by conductor
