Action (philosophy)
In philosophy, an action is something an Agency (philosophy), agent does. Actions contrast with events which merely happen to someone and are typically performed for a Goal, purpose and guided by an intention. The first question in the Action theory (philosophy), philosophy of action is to determine how actions differ from other forms of behavior, like Reflex, involuntary reflexes. According to Ludwig Wittgenstein, it involves discovering "What is left over if I subtract the fact that my arm goes up from the fact that I raise my arm". A common response to this question focuses on the agent's intentions. So driving a car is an action since the agent intends to do so, but sneezing is a mere behavior since it happens independent of the agent's intention. ''Action'' is an album by Oscar Peterson, the first volume of his '' Exclusively for My Friends'' series. Originally released by MPS Records, it was later released by Prestige Records as ''Easy Walker''. Reception An audiophile reviewer commented that the recording balance was inconsistent and that the bass sound on the first two tracks was "fat, tuneless woof as if the instrument were stuffed with a large, very fluffy bath towel". The AllMusic review by Ken Dryden awarded the album 4 stars writing "''Action'' represents some of Peterson's earliest work for Brunner-Schwer; these sessions were recorded before an invited audience in the studio, with the pianist's working trio of Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen. Pearly Gates (singer)
Viola Billups (born July 4, 1946), known by her stage name Pearly Gates, is an American disco and soul singer and member of girl group The Flirtations. Biography Billups was born in Alabama in 1946. She joined The Flirtations with sisters Earnestine Pearce and Betty Pearce in 1964 and moved with the group to London, England in 1968 where their music was popular. Pearly left the group in 1973 and released her first single "Sad Old Shadow", written by Lynsey De Paul and Don Gould on Polydor Records under the nickname "Vie". She changed her performing name to "Pearly Gates" in 1974 for her second single "Johnny and the Jukebox". In New Zealand, "Sad Old Shadow" was released in 1974 and credited to "Pearly Gates". Christopher Morris, known by the stage name Lance Fortune (born 4 January 1940, Birkenhead, Cheshire, England),Larkin C 'Virgin Encyclopedia of Sixties Music' (Muze UK Ltd, 1997) p197 is an English pop singer. Morris was classically trained on piano. He formed a rock and roll group called the Firecrests while a student at Birkenhead School, and served as lead vocalist; they recorded the songs " That'll Be the Day", "I Knew From the Start", and "Party", but were strictly a local attraction. After leaving University early, Morris was discovered by impresario Larry Parnes while working and singing at the 2i's Coffee Bar in London. The Fits
The Fits were a punk rock band from Blackpool, Lancashire, England, who were active between 1979 and 1985, having several hits on the UK Indie Chart. They reformed in 2011. History The Fits formed in Blackpool in October 1979, with an initial line-up of Mick Crudge (vocals), Andy Baron (bass guitar), Kev Halliday (drums), and "Big" Bill Hughes (guitar). They played their first gig only four days after forming, supporting Section 25 at Bispham Community Centre in Bispham. Kiddo was a P-Funk offspring group at A&M Records, formed by Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist Michael Hampton and writer Donnie Sterling, in the early 1980s. History In 1978, one of Kiddo's founding members, Donnie Sterling, was a member of Parlet, a P-Funk girl group created by George Clinton. As Parlet's band leader and bass player, Sterling wrote three songs on Parlet's second album, '' Invasion of the Booty Snatchers'', then became a P-Funk writer for producers Clinton and Ron Dunbar. Sterling wrote songs for Parliament in the late 1970s, and is best known for his vocal performance on "Agony Of Defeet" on the 1980 album '' Trombipulation''. ''Action'' is the first mini-album by South Korean boy group NU'EST. It was released on July 11, 2012, by Pledis Entertainment and distributed by LOEN Entertainment. The EP was a commercial success peaking at number 4 on the Gaon Album Chart. The EP has sold over 20,770 hard copies as of December 2012.
