Acropolis Cup International Boxing Tournament
The Acropolis Cup International Boxing Tournament was established in 1975 by the Hellenic Boxing Federation in Greece. The international amateur boxing competitions were held annually in Athens from 1975 to 2004 and returned after an 18-year hiatus in 2022. It was billed as one of the toughest tournaments in Europe. The Panathenaic Stadium ( el, Παναθηναϊκό Στάδιο, Panathinaïkó Stádio, ), as spelled by Philostratus. or ''Kallimarmaro'' (Καλλιμάρμαρο, , lit. "beautiful marble") is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. One of the main historic attractions of Athens, it is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble. A stadium was built on the site of a simple racecourse by the Athenian statesman Lykourgos (Lycurgus) BC, primarily for the Panathenaic Games. Yordanis Despaigne Herrera (born February 12, 1980) is a Cuban professional boxer who, as an amateur boxer, has medaled repeatedly in international tournaments as a middleweight. Career In Belfast at the 2001 World Amateur Boxing Championships he won a Bronze medal. After beating Kenneth Egan he lost to Utkirbek Haydarov (UZB) 28-29. Andre Dirrell
Andre Dirrell (born September 7, 1983) is an American professional boxer who held the IBF interim super middleweight title from 2017 to 2018. As an amateur, he won a bronze medal in the middleweight division at the 2004 Olympics. His younger brother Anthony Dirrell is also a professional boxer. Amir Iqbal Khan (born 8 December 1986) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2005 to 2022. Elias Pavlidis (born May 4, 1978, in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk), sometimes written Helias or Ilias Pavlidis, is a Greek amateur boxer best known to compete at the Athens Olympics 2004. He was born in Russia. Career At the 2003 World Championships he lost his first bout in the men's light-heavyweight division to eventual winner Evgeny Makarenko from Russia.
