Achchyon
Achchyon (; ; ), is a lake in Providensky District, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russian Federation.Google Earth There are archaeological remains of a Siberian Yupik settlement by the lakeshore. Currently there is no permanent human habitation on the shores of the lake. The nearest inhabited place is Nunligran village, located nearly to the west. The name of the lake in Chukot means "pink salmon." Geography Achchyon is a coastal lagoon located in the Chukotka Peninsula, at the southeastern end of the Chukotka Mountains. Its southern end is separated from Anadyr Bay by a narrow landspit. The water is clear and the lake bottom is pebbly and sandy. The lake freezes in early October and stays under ice until mid-June. The salinity of the waters is variable. During severe storms in the Bering Sea, the waves break over the landspit and large amounts of seawater spill into the lake. Nunligran
Nunligran (; , ''Nunlygran'') is a village ('' selo'') in Providensky Municipal District of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, in the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia. Population: Municipally, Nunligran is subordinated to Chukotsky Municipal District and incorporated as Nunligran Rural Settlement. Geography The settlement, about 180 km from Provideniya is a Chukchi village that replaced a Yupik village, indeed the name is derived from a combination of the two languages: "Nunalyk", the Yupik for "having a village" and "Ran", the Chukchi word for "Dwelling". It is not clear whether the Chukchi gradually became the dominant race in the village or whether they forced the Yupik out. Sentinel-2 is an Earth observation mission from the Copernicus Programme that acquires optical imagery at high spatial resolution (10 m to 60 m) over land and coastal waters. The mission's Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B satellites were joined in orbit in 2024 by a third, Sentinel-2C, and in the future by Sentinel-2D, eventually replacing the A and B satellites, respectively.
