Abyss (Ad Infinitum Album)
''Abyss'' is the fourth studio album by Swiss/German symphonic metal band Ad Infinitum (Swiss band), Ad Infinitum, released by Napalm Records on 11 October 2024. Reception The album received largely positive reviews from critics, but was polarising among fans due to its movement away from the style of the band's previous albums. Distorted Sound Magazine commented on this, saying "Abyss needs to be judged as the album it is, rather than the album people thought it should be. And on that basis, it would be tough to feel disappointed". Symphonic Metal
Symphonic metal is a cross-genre style designation for the symphonic subsets of heavy metal music subgenres. It is used to denote any metal band that makes use of symphonic or orchestral elements. The style features the heavy drums and guitars of metal with different elements of orchestral classical music, such as symphonic instruments, choirs and sometimes a full orchestra, or just keyboard orchestration. Symphonic metal bands can feature classically trained vocalists, in which case they can be attributed nicknames such as opera metal or operatic metal. Perhaps the most prominent examples of symphonic metal bands are Swedish band Therion (band), Therion, Finnish band Nightwish, German band Xandria, Italian band Rhapsody of Fire, American bands Lorna Shore and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Dutch bands Epica (band), Epica and Within Temptation. Those bands place a large focus on elements prevalent in film scores in addition to the more basic classical components utilized more wi ...

Ad Infinitum (Swiss Band) Albums
''Ad infinitum'' is a Latin phrase meaning "to infinity" or "forevermore". Description In context, it usually means "continue forever, without limit" and this can be used to describe a non-terminating process, a non-terminating ''repeating'' process, or a set of instructions to be repeated "forever," among other uses. It may also be used in a manner similar to the Latin phrase ''et cetera'' to denote written words or a concept that continues for a lengthy period beyond what is shown. Examples include: * "The sequence 1, 2, 3, ... continues ''ad infinitum''." * "The perimeter of a fractal may be iteratively drawn ''ad infinitum''." The 17th-century writer Jonathan Swift incorporated the idea of self-similarity in the following lines from his satirical poem ''On Poetry: a Rhapsody'' (1733): The vermin only teaze and pinch Their foes superior by an inch. So, naturalists observe, a flea Has smaller fleas that on him prey; And these have smaller still to bite 'em, And so proceed ''ad ...

Napalm Records Albums
Napalm is an incendiary mixture of a gelling agent and a volatile petrochemical (usually gasoline or diesel fuel). The name is a portmanteau of two of the constituents of the original thickening and gelling agents: coprecipitated aluminium salts of ''na''phthenic acid and ''palm''itic acid. A team led by chemist Louis Fieser originally developed napalm for the US Chemical Warfare Service in 1942 in a secret laboratory at Harvard University. Of immediate first interest was its viability as an incendiary device to be used in American fire bombing campaigns during World War II; its potential to be coherently projected into a solid stream that would carry for distance (instead of the bloomy fireball of pure gasoline) resulted in widespread adoption in infantry and tank/boat mounted flamethrowers as well. Napalm burns at temperatures ranging from . It burns longer than gasoline, is more easily dispersed, and adheres to its targets. These traits make it both effective and con ...
