Abraham Haskel Taub
Abraham Haskel Taub (; February 1, 1911 – August 9, 1999) was a distinguished United States, American mathematician and physicist who made important contributions to the early development of general relativity, as well as differential geometry and differential equations. Work Taub graduated in 1931 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Chicago. He earned his doctorate at Princeton University in 1935, under the direction of the prominent relativist Howard P. Robertson. At Princeton, Taub collaborated with Walker Bleakney and John von Neumann on terminal ballistics and shock waves during WWII, and was also influenced by Oswald Veblen. After a postdoctoral year at the Institute for Advanced Study, Taub became an assistant professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. The ORDVAC (''Ordnance Discrete Variable Automatic Computer)'', is an early computer built by the University of Illinois for the Ballistic Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground. It was a successor to the ENIAC (along with EDVAC built earlier). It was based on the IAS architecture developed by John von Neumann, which came to be known as the von Neumann architecture.
