''A Sun That Never Sets'' is the seventh studio album by American post-metal band Neurosis, released in 2001. The album was awarded #18 on Decibel Magazine's top 100 metal albums of the decade. The band later released a DVD of a full-length film, which the album accompanies. Neurosis (band)
Neurosis is an American post-metal band from Oakland, California. It was formed in 1985 by guitarist Scott Kelly (musician), Scott Kelly, bassist Dave Edwardson, and drummer Jason Roeder, initially as a crust punk band. Chad Salter joined as a second guitarist and appeared on the band's 1987 debut ''Pain of Mind'' and then Steve Von Till replaced him in 1989. The following year, the lineup further expanded to include a keyboardist and a visual artist. Beginning with their third album ''Souls at Zero'' (1992), Neurosis transformed their hardcore sound by incorporating diverse influences including doom metal and industrial music, becoming a major force in the emergence of the post-metal and sludge metal genres. Stephen Francis Von Till Jr. is an American musician, best known as the guitarist of the metal band Neurosis (band), Neurosis, in which he also shared lead vocals with former member Scott Kelly (musician), Scott Kelly. Following Kelly's departure in 2019, he is now the sole lead vocalist for the band. He also records solo work under both his given name and the moniker Harvestman. Jason Roeder
Jason Roeder is a retired American drummer, formerly of the Oakland-based metal bands Neurosis and Sleep. He played in the hardcore punk band Violent Coercion with Scott Kelly and Dave Edwardson before the trio formed Neurosis in 1985. The group also formed experimental/noise project Tribes of Neurot, Neurosis' alter ego. In 2010, Roeder replaced the retiring drummer of the stoner metal band Sleep. On January 26th 2025, Jason announced his retirement as a touring musician on his official Instagram saying "I am no longer a touring musician so I will be selling off most (possibly all) of my equipment and belongings.". Along with this he changed his Instagram biography to say "l used to go on stage and pretend I was supposed to be there." Scott Kelly (musician)
Scott Michael Kelly (born July 16, 1967) is an American retired musician. He was one of three founding members of California experimental metal band Neurosis, in which he was the band's lead vocalist and guitarist from its formation until his firing in 2019. Kelly retired from music in 2022 after admitting to many years of physically abusing his family. Aside from Neurosis, Kelly was also a member of the bands Tribes of Neurot, Blood and Time, Shrinebuilder, Corrections House, Mirrors of Psychic Warfare and Absent in Body. He released three solo albums. Kelly has also appeared on six albums by the American metal band Mastodon, featuring on all of their albums from 2004's ''Leviathan'' to 2017's '' Emperor of Sand''. Post-metal is a music genre rooted in heavy metal music, heavy metal but exploring approaches beyond metal conventions.
