Kosovo Basketball First League (Albanian: Liga e Parë e Kosovës në Basketboll) is the second-tier professional basketball league in Kosovo. It was founded in 2001 it is run by the Basketball Federation of Kosovo. Rules Competition format The league, operated by the Basketball Federation of Kosovo, consists of Kosovo Basketball First League which have 10 teams. For the 2014–15 season, the top team in "Kosovo Basketball First League" will be promoted to Kosovo Basketball Superleague and second best will play in an Relegation Playoff with the second from the bottom of Kosovo Basketball Superleague. The teams positioned 9th, 10th, in Kosovo Basketball First League will be relegated to a lower league – Kosovo Basketball Second League. Arena standards Currently, clubs must have home arenas with capacity of minimum 1000 seats. Basketball Federation Of Kosovo
The Basketball Federation of Kosovo ( Albanian: ''Federata e Basketbollit e Kosovës'', /''Košarkaški savez Kosova'') is the governing body of basketball in Kosovo. It organizes the Kosovo Basketball Superleague and the Kosovo Basketball Cup. It has also fielded a team which has represented Kosovo in international friendlies. History Kosovo Basketball Federation was founded in 1991. During the Yugoslavian era, Kosovo had own Superleague and lower divisions in both genders. In the 1990s, Kosovo declared political and sports independence from Yugoslavian system, organising its own league based with different teams from major cities of Kosovo. Kosovo was not allowed to play international matches, not even friendlies by FIBA, until 2015 when Kosovo Basketball Federation became official member of FIBA World and FIBA Europe. Obiliq
Obiliq, ) or Obilić ( sr-cyr, Обилић, ), also referred to as Kastriot ( sq-definite, Kastrioti, ) is a town and municipality in Kosovo. According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) estimate from the 2011 census, there were 21,549 people residing in Obiliq Municipality, with Kosovo Albanians constituting the majority of the population. Name Prior to the Balkan Wars, the settlement was known as ''Globoderica'' (). Following the conflict, the settlement was incorporated into Serbia and renamed ''Obilić'' as part of the efforts to reunite Serbian lands in the early twentieth century when inhabited places within Kosovo were named after heroes from Serbian epic poetry. KB Vëllaznimi Gjakovë is a professional basketball team that plays in the Kosovo Superleague. The club is part of the multidisciplinary Vëllaznimi Gjakovë, whose football team is called KF Vëllaznimi and its handball team KH Vëllaznimi. History Vëllaznimi is a club with many years of tradition in Kosovar Basketball. Vëllaznimi was founded in 1948, where it first participated in the first championship organized in Kosovo in 1949. KB Besa
KB Besa Pejë was the first basketball team from Pejë founded in 1961. Besa was part of the Kosovo Superleague before dissolving in 2015. History The team was founded in 1961, and its first name was KB Buduçnosti. These years team have present Kosovo in first league of Yugoslavia with great results and a lot of trophy winners. In 1979–80 the Albanian board of the team had to change name of club from Buduçnost to Ramiz Sadiku. The ex-secretary of team, Muhamet Ahma, who was also the first coach of the new team. In this year the team debuted in Balkanska league who lost in the semi-final to Mornar Bar 74–75. The best player was Blerim Vuniqi. Then Besa continued to play in the local league and in 1992 they were in the final of the play-offs against Prishtina and lost 30–36. KB Drita
KB Drita is a basketball club based in Gjilan, Kosovo (''Gjilan'' is the Albanian name of the town). Created in 1958, the club won the Basketball Superleague of Kosovo in 1996. KB Drita also has a women's club. History The club was formed in 1958 with the name "Drita" which means "light" in the Albanian language. The name was taken from other sports clubs in the city.
