ASEA Rz
Rz was an electric locomotive built by ASEA to test out asynchronous motors. It was built in 1982 and closely related to the Rc-series. It was test run until 1989 on Siljansbanan, but there was never any mass production of it. Later developments After ASEA merged with Brown, Boveri & Cie to form Asea Brown Boveri in 1988 the development of asynchronous motors was moved to Switzerland. The Rz technology was utilized for the development of the X2-train and the Rc5-locomotive. Örebro
Örebro ( ; ) is the seventh-largest city in Sweden, the seat of Örebro Municipality, and capital of Örebro County. The Swedish Railway Museum, (), in Gävle, Gästrikland, Sweden is the national museum for Sweden's railway history. The Swedish Railway Museum is tasked with acquiring, preserving and supplying knowledge about Swedish railway history on the basis of the national collection. SJ X2
X 2000, officially designated X2, is an electric high-speed tilting train operated by SJ in Sweden. It has a top commercial speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) and a top design speed of 210 km/h (130 mph) but has achieved a maximum speed of 276 km/h (171 mph) in tests. It primarily serves major routes, including Stockholm–Gothenburg and Stockholm–Malmö–Copenhagen. The X2 project began in 1969 as a collaboration between Kalmar Verkstad, Swedish State Railways (SJ), and ASEA. In 1986, SJ placed an order for 20 sets of a new type of train. Asea was responsible for manufacturing the electrical components, while Kalmar Verkstad (Statsföretag) was responsible for the mechanical design and manufacturing. Dala Line
The Dala Line () is a single-track railway line in Sweden, linking the city of Uppsala to the town of Mora, via Sala, Avesta-Krylbo, Hedemora, Säter, Borlänge and Leksand. In Uppsala, the line joins the East Coast Line, which goes south to Stockholm. In Borlänge, the Bergslagen Line connects to Falun–Gävle. Rc Locomotive
The Rc class is the most used electric locomotive in Sweden. Built by Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA), the Rc is a universal locomotive used both in freight and passenger trains. The largest operator is Green Cargo, although SJ, Tågab, Hector Rail and Banverket operate it as well. Previous operators include Veolia Transport. History The Rc-model emerged from ASEA in the 1960s. It first appeared in 1967 to replace the older D-locomotives. Notably, ASEA facility manager and head engineer Tore Nordin was involved in designing and developing the Rc locomotive at ASEA. The initial Rc models are notable for using thyristors instead of the older relay-based system.
