Årøya
or is an island in Alta Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The island is located in the Altafjorden, about north of the town of Alta. The island is only accessible by boat. There is a regular ferry connection between the village of Kongshus on Årøya and Mikkelsby on the mainland, just northwest of the village of Leirbotn. The island is the site of the remains of the old Altenhus Fortress in the village of Kongshus. The old fortress was built in 1610. Arøya is a group of three small islands in Larvik Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. They are located in the outer part of the Langesundsfjorden approximately midway between the town of Langesund (in Bamble Municipality in Telemark) and the village of Helgeroa in Larvik. Aroya, Colorado
Aroya is an unincorporated community in Cheyenne County, Colorado, United States. It is located at the eastern end of State Highway 94 near its junction with U.S. Highway 40/ U.S. Highway 287. History The name Arroyo appears on some older maps. The town was named "Aroya" because of a gulch nearby ('' arroyo'' is a Spanish word for "gulch"). The gulch is now named the Aroya Gulch. Aroya originated in 1870 three miles west of the present site as a camp for Kansas-Pacific Railroad track-layers, but was moved to the present site because there was a better supply of water. The Aroya, Colorado, post office operated from September 17, 1889, until March 26, 1965. The Post Office at Wild Horse ( ZIP Code 80862) now serves Aroya postal addresses.
