A. P. Barrett
Alva Pearl Barrett (April 12, 1878 – March 23, 1953) was a Texas politician and businessman. He served in the Texas legislature between 1903 and 1909. Born in Tennessee, Barrett moved to Texas in 1892. He served in the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate representing his home town of Bonham from the 28th to 30th legislature. Upon graduating from the University of Texas in 1906, he would become a practicing attorney. However, in the 1920s he would shift his career to business and founded several companies. One of his companies, Southern Air Transport, would eventually become American Airlines. Early life On April 12, 1878, Alva Pearl Barrett was born to Amelia Burns Barrett (1856–1917) and Marcus Lafayette Barrett (1855–1943) in Milan, Tennessee. Southern Air Transport
Southern Air Transport (SAT), based in Miami, Florida, was, in its final incarnation, a cargo airline. However, it started life as an irregular air carrier (later known as a supplemental air carrier), a type of carrier defined and tightly controlled until 1978 by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), a now defunct Federal agency that, at the time, closely regulated almost all US commercial air transportation. From 1965 onward, such airlines were charter carriers. Up until 1965, they were charter/scheduled hybrids. For much of that time the carrier was owned by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) (1960–1973). Fannin County is a county in the far northeast of the U.S. state of Texas, on the border with Oklahoma. As of the 2020 census, its population was 35,662, making it the 87th-most populous county in Texas. The entirety of Fannin County is a part of the Bonham micropolitan statistical area and the Dallas-Fort Worth combined statistical area. The county seat is Bonham. History The county was named for James Fannin, who commanded the group of Texans killed in the Goliad Massacre during the Texas Revolution.
