A. D. Wilson
Allen David "A.D." Wilson (September 17, 1844 – February 21, 1920) was an American cartographer. Biography He was born in Sparta, Illinois. He left school and in March 1867, enlisted with the Geological Survey of California. There he learned triangulation. In July 1868, he joined Clarence King for his Geological Exploration of the Fortieth Parallel and stayed with him through 1872. In 1872, Wilson accompanied King and others to investigate and eventually debunk a diamond hoax in the northwest corner of the Colorado Territory. Wilson then joined Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden, and between 1873 and 1878 he led a survey party across western Colorado, western Wyoming, and eastern Idaho. Wilson's half-brother Franklin Rhoda was a key member of this survey team. In 1879, Hayden's Survey was merged with others to form the U.S. Geological Survey. Wilson Glacier (Mount Rainier)
The Wilson Glacier is a medium-sized tributary glacier located on the southeast flank of Mount Rainier in Washington. Named after A.D. Wilson, who was part of an early ascent of Mount Rainier, the body of ice has an area of and has a volume of 1.9 billion feet3 (54 million m3). The glacier directly feeds ice to the adjacent, but much larger Nisqually Glacier. Starting from the head at , the glacier flows downhill southward. One part of the glacier meets the Nisqually Glacier at and the other part of the glacier ends on a cliff in between the Wilson and Nisqually Glacier at . Wilson Peak
Wilson Peak is a mountain peak in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is located in the Lizard Head Wilderness of the Uncompahgre National Forest, in the northwestern San Juan Mountains. It is the highest point in San Miguel County, Colorado, San Miguel County, and the highest point of the Wilson massif, which includes nearby Mount Wilson (Colorado), Mount Wilson and El Diente Peak. The mountain was named for A.D. Wilson, the chief topographer with the Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden, Hayden Survey. Nearby Mount Wilson (Colorado), Mount Wilson also honors him. The original indigenous name for the mountain was Shandoka, which translates to "Storm Maker", a reference to the peak's effect on local weather patterns. Hayden Survey
Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden (September 7, 1829 – December 22, 1887) was an American geologist noted for his pioneering surveying expeditions of the Rocky Mountains in the late 19th century. He was also a physician who served with the Union Army during the Civil War. Early life Ferdinand Hayden was born in Westfield, Massachusetts. As a young boy he was fascinated with all nature and wildlife, which led him into the field of medicine. He worked in Cleveland under Jared Potter Kirtland and thereafter in Albany, NY, where he worked under James Hall, of the ''Geological Survey of New York''. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1850 and from the Albany Medical College in 1853, where he attracted the notice of Professor James Hall, state geologist of New York, through whose influence he was induced to join in an exploration of Nebraska Territory, with Fielding B. Mount Wilson (Colorado)
Mount Wilson is the highest summit of the San Miguel Mountains range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The prominent fourteener is located in the Lizard Head Wilderness of San Juan National Forest, north by east ( bearing 12°) of the Town of Rico in Dolores County, Colorado, United States. Mount Wilson should not be confused with the lower Wilson Peak nearby. The peak was named for A.D. Wilson, a topographer with the Hayden Survey. Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by influenza viruses. Symptoms range from mild to severe and often include fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pain, headache, coughing, and fatigue.
