A.R. Nesbitt
Arthur Russell Nesbitt (November 1, 1883 – July 11, 1962) was an Ontario lawyer and political figure. He was elected to Toronto City Council for Ward 4 beginning in 1920, was subsequently elected to the Toronto Board of Control and then was elected provincially representing Toronto Northwest and then Bracondale in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1923 to 1937 as a Conservative member. He was born in Nestleton, Durham County, Ontario, the son of George M. Nesbitt. Nesbitt was educated at Toronto University and Osgoode Hall, was called to the bar in 1910 and set up practice in Toronto. In 1913, he married Sadie Harrison Brown. Osgoode Hall is a landmark building in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The original -storey building was started in 1829 and finished in 1832 from a design by John Ewart (architect), John Ewart and William Warren Baldwin. The Board of Control of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was a part of its municipal government until it was abolished in 1969. It served as the executive committee of the Toronto City Council. When it was initially created in 1896 by mandate of the provincial government, it consisted of three Controllers appointed from and by the aldermen, and presided over by the Mayor of Toronto. Beginning in 1904, the Board of Control was directly elected by the city's electorate and consisted of four Controllers, presided over by the Mayor. Lionel Conacher
Lionel Pretoria Conacher ( ; May 24, 1900 – May 26, 1954), nicknamed "the Big Train", was a Canadian athlete and politician. Voted the country's top athlete of the first half of the 20th century, he won championships in numerous sports. His first passion was Canadian football; he was a member of the 1921 Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts. He was also a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs baseball team that won the International League championship in 1926. In hockey, he won the Memorial Cup in 1920, and the Stanley Cup twice: with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1934 and the Montreal Maroons in 1935. Additionally, he won wrestling, boxing and lacrosse championships during his playing career.
