7th Mäjilis
The Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the 7th convocation (; ) was a convocation of the Parliament of Kazakhstan from 2021 to 2023. The term convened at its first session on 15 January, following the 2021 Kazakh legislative election, 2021 legislative election to the lower house Mäjilis, previously held on 10 January. A total of 98 deputies of the Mäjilis were elected based on the party-list proportional representation, while the 9 seats were reserved to the members elected by the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, Assembly of People on 11 January. Nurlan Nigmatulin, the parliamentary leader of the Nur Otan party group, was unanimously elected as the chairman of the Mäjilis while Balaim Kesebaeva and Pavel Kazantsev were elected as Deputy Chairman of the Mäjilis, deputy chairmen. Asqar Uzaqbaiuly Mamin (, ; born 23 October 1965) is a Kazakh politician and economist who served as the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from 2019 to 2022, resigning due to pressure from the 2022 Kazakh unrest. He served as First Deputy Prime Minister from 9 September 2016 to 21 February 2019. Previously, he was the president of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway company of Kazakhstan. The Chairman of the Mäjilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan (; ) is a presiding officer of the lower house Mäjilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, and is responsible for opening sessions, preside over regular and extraordinary joint meetings. The Assembly of People of Kazakhstan () is a national political body in Kazakhstan consisting of delegates of the Regional Assemblies of the People. Its task is to represent the various ethnic groups that make up the Central Asian state at national level and to strengthen ethnic/religious coexistence in Kazakh society. Balaiym Tuğanbaiqyzy Kesebaeva (, ; born 23 April 1966) is a Kazakh politician and jurist who's serving as the Deputy Chair of the Mazhilis since 15 January 2021 and a member of the Mazhilis from March 2016. Pavel Olegovich Kazantsev (, ; born 22 March 1960) is a Russian politician currently serving as the Deputy Chair of the Mazhilis since 15 January 2021 and as Mazhilis member since 2016. Biography Early life and education Kazantsev was born in 1960 in the city of Tomsk in present-day Russia. In 1982, he graduated with honors from the Tselinograd Civil Engineering Institute, specializing in automobiles and auto industry. Then in 1986, from the Dzerzhinsky Higher School of the KGB.
