586th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron
The 586th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron (ESFS) was a United States Air Force Security Forces Squadron that served in combat as an “In Lieu Of” request for forces agreement between the United States Air Force and the United States Army. The 586th was one of the most decorated Security Forces Squadrons during the Iraq War for its time, serving from 2 March 2005 to 22 December 2008. The 586th became the first combat Security Forces unit to lose a member during the War on terror, Global War on Terror when Elizabeth Jacobson, A1C Elizabeth Jacobson was killed in action 28 September 2005 near Safwan, Safwan, Iraq. Mission During its activation, the 586th ESFS mission involved providing force protection, conducting exterior patrols and running IED sweeps out of Camp Bucca. The 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team ("Jersey Blues") was an infantry brigade combat team of the United States Army National Guard of New Jersey. It was headquartered at the Lawrenceville Armory. Background The 50th Brigade Combat Team was the major unit of the New Jersey Army National Guard. The headquarters was located in Lawrenceville, NJ. The 50th Brigade Combat Team had two light infantry battalions, one field artillery battalion, one cavalry squadron, a special troops battalion, two MP companies, and a support battalion. Its nickname "Jersey Blues" dates back to the 17th century with the earliest units serving in both the French and Indian War (see book titled 'Colonial Tribulations') and Rev. War. 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (United States)
The 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team ("Thunderbird") is a modular infantry brigade combat team of the United States Army headquartered in Norman, Oklahoma. It is a part of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. The 45th Infantry Brigade was formed from existing elements of the disbanded 45th Infantry Division which had seen extensive action during World War II and the Korean War. The 45th Infantry Brigade was activated in 1968 and assigned to training duties for active duty army units until 1994 when the 45th was selected as one of 15 Separate Enhanced Infantry Brigades. 42nd Military Police Brigade
The 42nd Military Police Brigade is a military police brigade of the United States Army based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. It is a subordinate unit of I Corps. First activated as a customs unit in post-World War II Germany, the brigade has a long history with United States Army Europe. Its duties as a customs unit meant that the unit was garrisoned in Germany for over forty years from 1950 until 1990, never seeing action in the U.S. operations of the Korean War, Vietnam War, or the Persian Gulf War. It was deactivated during the post-Cold War drawdown of the U.S. military. Reactivated in 2004, the brigade provides corrections and force protection for both I Corps and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The 886th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron is a provisional unit consisting of Security Forces personnel from around the world like the 72d Security Force Squadron, Tinker Air Force Base Oklahoma and the 47th Security Forces Squadron, Laughlin Air Force Base Texas. The 886th Squadron ran the Detainee Visitation Operations for Camp Bucca's theater internment facility, located in the vicinity of Umm Qasr, Iraq.
