42nd Mechanized Brigade (Ukraine)
The 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade () is a mechanized infantry brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. History The brigade was formed on January 25, 2023, as part of the expansion of the Ukrainian Army in anticipation of the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive, primarily from personnel mobilized in western Ukraine and officers from the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade. The command was entrusted to Lieutenant Colonel Volodymyr Bolechan, former commander of the 109th Battalion of the 10th Brigade. It was the second Ukrainian unit, after the 82nd Air Assault Brigade (Ukraine), 82nd Air Assault Brigade, to receive Stryker armored vehicles. However, these were only equipped to one battalion, and the other two received the BMP-1, BMP-1LB, vehicles based on the MT-LB hull and equipped with a modern stabilized turret. Operational Command South
The Operational Command South (OC South) is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces in the southern part of Ukraine, which was formed in January 1998 as the Southern Operation Command on the basis of the Odesa Military District and headquartered in Odesa. In 2005-2013 it was known as the Southern Operation Association. Until 2015 Operational Command South covered 9 oblasts and autonomous republics: Odesa, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. In 2015 eastern parts of the operation command territory were passed on to newly formed Operation Command East based in Dnipro. The headquarters of the OC South was relocated from Odesa to Mykolaiv. Lyptsi ( uk, Липці) is a village in the Kharkiv Raion, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. Situated at the point where the Lypets River flows into the Kharkiv River, Lyptsi is close to the border with Russia. 18th Guards Motor Rifle Division
The 18th Guards Motor Rifle Division was formed originally as 133rd Rifle Division at Novosibirsk or Biysk in 1939. The division was part of 1st Shock Army on 1 December 1941 during the Battle of Moscow. It was redesignated as the 18th Guards Rifle Division in March 1942 with the 51, 53, 58 Guards Rifle Regiments and 52 Guards Artillery Regiment. The division fought in the East Prussian Offensive. The unit became 30th Guards Mechanised Division in 1945 as part of the 11th Guards Army. In 1965 it was renumbered as 18th Guards MRD. It seems to have been stationed in the Kaliningrad enclave with 11th Guards Army before entering Czechoslovakia in 1968, joining the Central Group of Forces. In 1991 the division was withdrawn back to Gusev in the Kaliningrad Oblast. The 92nd Assault Brigade "Ivan Sirko" ( uk, 92-га окрема штурмова бригада, translit=92 okrema shturmova bryhada), abbreviated 92 OShBr (), is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Its honorific name is after Cossack military leader Ivan Sirko. The unit was formed in 1999 as the 6th Mechanized Division based on the 6th Division of the National Guard of Ukraine. The 125th Independent Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces () is a military formation of the Territorial Defense Forces (Ukraine), Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine in Lviv.
