341st Fighter Squadron
The 341st Fighter Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was last assigned to the 348th Fighter Group, based at Osaka International Airport, Itami Air Base, Japan. It was inactivated on 10 May 1946. It was allocated to the New Jersey Air National Guard and redesignated as the 141st Fighter Squadron on 24 May 1946. Kornasoren (Numfor) Airport is a civil airport in Numfor, Biak Islands, Papua, Indonesia. . Commercial service is provided by Susi Air to Manokwari and Biak from this Airport. History The airfield was one of three constructed by the Japanese during their occupation of the island in 1943/1944. Wakde Airfield
Wakde Airfield is a World War II airfield located on Wakde Island, off the northern coast of New Guinea in Papua, Indonesia. The airfield was abandoned after the war and today is almost totally returned to its natural state. History The airfield was constructed by the Japanese and was first noted by the Americans in February 1943. By June 1943, a single coral–surfaced 5,400' x 390' runway, with dispersal areas off the northern side was identified, and a barracks area on the south side was visible. By September, the Japanese had expanded the base further with a radio station and quarters for 1,000 personnel. Wakde Airfield was seized by the United States Army on 15 May 1944. Construction work was begun to repair the airstrip once the battle was over on 18 May. The airfield was repaired and put into use by the Fifth Air Force as a forward operations base. Saidor Airport is an airport in Madang Province, Papua New Guinea. . It is a general aviation airport located at the coast near Saidor, near Saul Point with Dekys Bay to the east and the Bismarck Sea to the north. History A pre-World War II airfield, after the US Army landing at Saidor on 2 January 1944 to liberate the area from the Japanese, construction of a single runway running roughly ESE to WNW began. Initially, the airfield was only usable by light Liaison planes, later it was expanded to include extensive taxiways and revetments on the north and south side of the runway, and an apron at each edge of the runway.
