Tanauan Airfield is a World War II airfield located near Tanauan in the province of Leyte, Philippines. It was closed after the war. History The airfield was built by the Americans shortly after landing on Leyte in November 1944. The Fifth Air Force (5 AF) is a Numbered Air Force of the United States Air Force Pacific Air Forces (PACAF). It is headquartered at Yokota Air Base, Japan. Tanauan (IPA: ɐn'ʔaʊɐn, officially the Municipality of Tanauan (; ), is a first-class municipality in the province of Leyte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 57,455 people. Tanauan is one of the oldest towns in Leyte, dating back to the year 1710. It is composed of 54 barangays. The 312th Aeronautical Systems Wing is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was last active in June 2010 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where it managed attack aircraft, attack and fighter aircraft systems development as part of the Aeronautical Systems Center.
