2025 Abkhazian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in the Republic of Abkhazia on 15 February 2025 following the 2024 Abkhazian protests. The protests resulted in the resignation of Aslan Bzhania as president of Abkhazia. As no candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, a second round was held on 1 March. Acting president Badra Gunba was elected, receiving 56% of the vote. Background The election was called after president Aslan Bzhania resigned in November 2024 due to protests against an agreement allowing wealthy Russians to purchase property in Abkhazia. He was replaced on an acting basis by his vice president, Badra Gunba. On 28 November 2024, the People's Assembly of Abkhazia announced that new presidential elections would be held on 15 February 2025, with the winner to be inaugurated within the next 30 days of the results being declared. Badra Gunba
Badra Zurabovich Gunba (; ; born 14 March 1981) is an Abkhazian politician who is the 6th President of Abkhazia. Previously the Vice President of Abkhazia, Gunba ascended to the presidency after the resignation of Aslan Bzhania. Born in Sukhumi while it was part of the Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, Gunba was educated as an economist at the Saratov State Agrarian University. He became the Deputy Minister of Culture in 2009, and then Minister of Culture in 2011. Early life and education Badra Gunba was born in Sukhumi, Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, on 14 March 1981. He graduated from the Sokhumi State University in 1998, and became an economics teacher at the Abkhazian State University. The Forum for the National Unity of Abkhazia (FNUA; ; ; ka, აფხაზეთის ეროვნული ერთიანობის ფორუმი, tr) is a prominent oppositional political party in Abkhazia. It is led by former President Raul Khajimba (also the former Prime Minister and former Vice President). History The FNUA was founded on 8 February 2005 to unite 12 opposition parties, socio-political movements, public organisations and youth organisations, which however continued to exist as individual entities. Aruaa
Aruaa (; ) is a political and social organisation in Abkhazia uniting veterans of the 1992–1993 war with Georgia. It was founded on 10 May 2007. 534 people were present at its founding congress. The first Minister of Defence of Abkhazia Vladimir Arshba was unanimously elected Chairman of the organisation, and Vadim Smyr and Mukhamed Kilba were elected Vice Chairmen. Apart from Arshba, Smyr and Kilba, ten more people were elected into the Supreme Council: Sergei Matosian, Eduard Bulia, Slavik Kuchuberia, Adler Mikvabia, Vitaly Gabnia, Gennady Margani, Kachubei Avidzba, Chingiz Bigvava, Liana Achba and Mzia Beia. 2024 Parliament Of Abkhazia Shooting

Kan Kvarchia is a member of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia. Political career In the March 2012 elections, Kvarchia successfully ran for a seat of the 5th convocation of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia in constituency no. 31 ( Tkvarcheli), winning the first round with 39.16% of the votes against three other candidates, and defeating incumbent MP Aleksandr Chengelia in the run-off.
