2024–25 Petro De Luanda Basketball Season
Petro de Luanda plays the 2024–25 season in the Angolan Basketball League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL), as well as in two national cup competitions. This season was the first without Carlos Morais, whose 22-year tenure with Petro ended when he signed with rivals Interclube. Other notable players who left were Jone Pedro (after 5 years) and Gerson Gonçalves (after nine years). Petro successfully defended its national title by defeating Primeiro de Agosto in the finals in five games. It was the eighteenth title of Petro, and the sixth consecutive championship. It was the second team to win six straight titles, following Primeiro de Agosto's streak between 2000 and 2005. Sergio Valdeolmillos
Sergio Valdeolmillos Moreno (born 4 April 1967) is a Spanish basketball coach who is the current coach of Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Valdeolmillos won the BAL championship with Petro de Luanda in 2024, and led the team to a national treble in 2025. National team career Valdeolmillos coached the Mexico national team at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Valdeolmillos also led Mexico to the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship and the 2014 Centrobasket Championship. Club career Valdeolmillos began his career with CB Huelva 76, and later with CB Ciudad de Huelva. He led the team to the Liga Española de Baloncesto (LEB) championship in 1997. Patrick Yousef Gardner (born 16 June 1999) is an American-Egyptian professional basketball player for the Fukushima Firebonds of the Japanese B.League. Al Ahly is an Egyptian basketball club of Al Ahly SC, located in Cairo, Cairo Governorate, that plays in the Egypt Basketball Super League. NBA Academy Africa
The NBA Academy Africa is a basketball team and academy operated by the National Basketball Association (NBA), located in Saly, Senegal. Opened in 2017, the academy offers both education and basketball training. Several alumni of the program have played in professional leagues. The academy is a shared program between the NBA and SEED Academy. The academy has two indoor training courts, as well as dormitories and educational facilities. 2026 BAL Season
The 2026 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 6, will be the 6th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The playoffs and finals will be held in BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, for a fifth time, as a result of a long-term agreement with the country. The winners will earn the right to play in the 2026 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Al Ahli Tripoli were the previous champions, but have not yet qualified for the competition. Venues Under a long-term agreement between the Rwanda Development Board and the BAL, the playoffs and finals will be held in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, for a record fifth time.
